Title: Pentecost Sunday
Pentecost Sunday
John 4:24
1. Introduction
Today (Sunday, June 8) is Pentecost Sunday. According to the church calendar, from today on November 30, the 24 Sundays before Advent are the first Sunday after Pentecost. The second week is called .....etc. Therefore, over the next few weeks, we would like to share our grace while meditating on God the Holy Spirit in the Trinity of God the Father-Son-Holy Spirit.
2. Holy Spirit-Holy Spirit-Ruach Kadosh (Hebrew)-Pneuma Hagios (Greek)?
According to The Interpreter's Dictionary of The Bible “Holy Spirit,” the Holy Spirit is the strength that God pours out on an individual whom God has specially chosen for that work when he has a problem to be solved in relation to his people- It refers to the mysterious power of God, such as courage-wisdom-knowage, and the presence of God who manifests himself to a specific individual-special talent that God gives to people.
In other words, leaders like Moses and Joshua in the Old Testament - Judges like Samson and Gideon - Prophets such as Elijah, Elisha, Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Ezekiel, etc. - Talent to make objects necessary for tabernacles, temples, and sacrifices -The talents of music, singing, and poetry in the temple - and God's intervention in nature (the plagues upon Pharaoh, parting the Red Sea, the appearance of Mount Sinai - stopping the sun), etc.
In the New Testament, all operations within the church (evangelism, church community, testimony, martyrdom, tongues, healing, miracles, etc.) that occur through the work of Christ, and Christ glorified as the head of the church means to worship and meditate on.
The original meaning of “ruah (hi)-pneuma (hui)” in “Hebrew Ruach Kadosh-Greek Pneuma Hagios”, which means “Holy Spirit” in Korean, is “the source of wind, storm, breath, vitality, and life.” is. Therefore, if the Holy Spirit is named in its original meaning, it would be better to call it <Holy Wind with Personality>. In other words, the Holy Spirit is a person with a person. The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal deity, some mystical power, or a superpower, as the Greek philosopher Parmenides said: The One-Cosmic Power-Inner Vitality. He is a person who has knowledge and understanding with the people who live on this earth. Therefore, the Bible testifies that “The Holy Spirit is the one who constantly speaks for us - grieves - groans - helps us - and makes intercession for us (John 4:24; John 14:26; Romans 8:26; Revelation 2:7).” He does.
3. What are the three greatest works (work) of God the Holy Spirit?
first. The Holy Spirit was with God the Father and created the heavens and the earth.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, and the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the deep, and the Spirit of God moved over the waters-In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The LORD had me before the beginning of his harmony, from the beginning of time, before the creation of the earth, from all ages, from the beginning of time, before the earth was built I was established; the sea was not yet formed; before the great springs I was born; before the mountains were built, the hills were established. I was born before I was born, when God had not yet made the earth, nor the hears, nor the fountains of the dust of the world. I was there when he formed the heavens and put the firmament on the surface of the seas, and he established the clouds above, he strengthened the heavens of the clouds, and created the springs of the seas. He strengthened the sea; he set the limits of the sea so that the waters do not disobey his commandment; and when he laid the foundation of the earth, I was by his side, being the creator, to be his delight day by day, and always rejoiced in his presence; Hear now, my sons, blessed are those who keep my ways (Proverbs 8:22-32).
second. The Holy Spirit came upon Jesus and Jesus became the Christ-Messiah.
The Spirit of the Lord has come upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, and has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and restoration of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. So he closed the book, gave it to the one in charge, and sat down, and all those in the synagogue looked at it, and Jesus said to them, “Today this writing has been fulfilled in your ears” (Luke 4:18-21). “Are you the Christ? To the disciples of John the Baptist who asked (Luke 7:17-23), Jesus told the same Luke 4:18-21 mentioned earlier.
third. The Holy Spirit established the church in Mark's upper room on the day of Pentecost.
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all gathered together in one place, and suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a rushing strong wind, and filled the whole house where they were sitting, and they saw tongues of fire splitting apart like tongues of fire, and it rested upon each one, and they were all filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. When they were filled, they began to speak with other tongues as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:1-47).
