Title: Pentecost, Pentecost, Acts 2
The Holy Spirit came down on the day of Pentecost. The Day of Pentecost was 7x7=49, that is, the 50th day after the Passover, and was the final feast of the Passover. Pentecost was also the feast of the 50th day after the events of the Cross and Resurrection, and it was the feast that concluded the cross and resurrection. God is the One who not only initiates and proceeds with the work of salvation, but also concludes and completes it. He is the one who completes and completes the salvation of our individual and the church. Reformed theologians refer to the Pentecost event as a "one-off" event. I would like to call this event a "unique" event. Because similar incidents keep happening. Let's take a look at what was finished and completed at Pentecost.
1. Completion of Communication (1-13)
The result of sin is a severance of relationships and a severance of communication. It is a severance of relationship and communication with God, and a severance of relationship and communication with people. One example is Cain's departure (Gen. 4:14) and the confusion of the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11:7). Salvation is the restoration of relationships and the restoration of communication. On the day of Pentecost, 120 people restored their relationship and communication with God and restored their relationship and communication with people from various regions. He spoke with God with his tongue, and he spoke with people from various places through his tongue. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak. "And he began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (4,6,11). It is not necessary that we all speak in tongues now. Paul himself made it clear that not all spoke in tongues. However, we must speak to God and speak to our neighbors in the language of the Holy Spirit. This is the evidence of a person who has been saved.
2. The completion of the sermon (14-41)
Another result of the descent of the Holy Spirit was the completion of the sermon, that is, the ability to proclaim the Word of God with power. The words of the Lord were fulfilled, "When the Holy Spirit comes, he will teach all things and bring to mind all things" (John 14:26). The apostle Peter freely quoted the writings of Joel and David and clearly testified on the basis of his own experience about the meaning of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the coming of the Holy Spirit. He also pointed out the sins of the audience's unbelief and treason and urged them to repent. As a result, 3,000 people repented of their sins, believed, were baptized, and received the Holy Spirit. Preaching is a person. A person who has been transformed like Peter and a person who has come under the control of the Holy Spirit is preaching. The sermon itself is not very important, but the sermon of a changed person is so important.
3. The Consummation of the Church (42-47)
Even now, God completes and completes our salvation. Even though we have failed repeatedly like Peter and the 12 disciples, he pours out the Holy Spirit again to complete and complete our salvation. Therefore, we must daily long for the coming and outpouring of the Holy Spirit and work out our salvation. Restore our relationship with God and our neighbors. Make me a complete preacher. Please make our church whole.
