Title: People Waiting for Christmas Text: Luke 2:25-38
For all of us, the word waiting gives us hope. When there is no expectation in life, when there is nothing to look forward to, humans easily forget the beauty of their life and give up. Alexandre Dumas, a famous French novelist in the 19th century, said, “The wisdom of all men can be summed up in two words. It is waiting and hope.’ Two people appear in the verse we read today. Their names are ‘Simeon’ and ‘Anna’. What these two have in common is that they are old and eagerly waiting for someone. These two were very pious people. They were people who prayed day and night without leaving the temple of God. And these two men had a special mission. It was to meet the long-awaited event in her life and to testify to it. It was a waiting for the ‘Messiah’.
1. Their waiting came from their love for God.
Luke 2:37 and 38 introduce Anna. These two were probably quite a few older people. In verse 29, there is a scene where Simeon sees the long-awaited Messiah and confesses, “Lord, now you are letting your servant go in peace, just as you said.” The same goes for Anna. Anna says in verse 36, “She was very old.” At such an old age, these were people who loved God more and more. With this brief introduction of a righteous and devout man and a man who had lost his husband and lived alone for 84 years, fasting day and night, we can miss out on how much these two loved the Lord. But we can tell the depth of love that these two people met the ‘Messiah’. Because I loved God, I believed the word of God and was able to eagerly await the ‘Messiah’.
2. Their waiting came from their love for their country.
Luke 2:25 Luke 2:38 According to these words, these were people who loved the nation. In the lives of these people, you can find the mourning for comforting their people and their country. ‘Waiting for the consolation of Israel’ means ‘waiting for the salvation of Israel’. You can see the two people who were praying for their country and people at an age when it was too much to take care of their own well-being. Christians should be those who love their country and their people above all else. They should be people who pray for their country and their people. You must be a person who can set an example of true patriotism. We must go to God and pray with the reality of our country and people.
3. Their waiting came from their love for the church.
Luke 2:27 Luke 2:37 Simeon and Anna were lovers of the temple. Above all, those who prayed for the church, the saints, the country, and the people in the temple without leaving the temple. The meaning of ‘they entered the temple under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit’ means that they entered the temple under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Everyone! When the temple does not become a house of prayer and a place of true worship, it becomes a den of robbers.
4. Their waiting comes from loving souls.
