Subject: People who should be happy
Text: Deuteronomy 33:26-29, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22
‘Shouldn’t everyone be happy? It's a questionable title. of course. However, in the Bible, God's Word, there are 'people who need to be happy first'. They are the 'descendants of Abraham' who are said to be the father of faith and the father of blessing. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, and you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2). This is God's blessing procedure. The mission of those who first receive the blessings that all peoples of the earth will receive is great. You must receive it first, and the next is to be used as the channel (Genesis 12:3). The condition is to fear the Lord and obey His will (Genesis 12:4). Therefore, God, the Creator and the true Master of history, also created a specific ceremony for the realization of the promised blessings (Numbers 6:22-27).
It reminds us that his father Abraham was blessed before Isaac, and Isaac was blessed before Jacob. The blessing of the Abraham-Isaac-Jacob-12 tribes is the sequence. This is the grace contained in today's Old Testament text (Deuteronomy 33:26-29). This is the end of the farewell sermon delivered by Moses, the man of God, in the plains of Moab with the Promised Land in front of him in his last years (at the age of 120). The blessings they have received and will receive are because God is special (verse 26). The condition of victory is that God is with the people of Israel before the battle for conquest of Canaan. We sing of their presence and sing of victory (verse 27). The victory and conquest, as well as the blessings to be enjoyed, are certain (verse 28). Moses ends his farewell sermon with a blessing (29). He sings of the presence of God, who is the guarantee of victory, and says, ‘Blessed are you, Israel. He reminded me that they are happy people.
What is our spiritual state in the New Testament era? In the New Testament era, ‘us’ is the generation that experienced the redemption of the second Messiah, the core of the Old Testament prophecy (John 3:16). These are people who have come to live in the presence of the Holy Spirit, who is the third person (Acts 1:8). In the presence of the Holy Spirit, we are living in the grace of Immanuel (Matt. 1:23). Emmanuel's grace is the highest grace recorded in the Bible. As we meditate on Mark’s Darakbang strengthening words (John 14:16-21), the grace of God that comes to mind is unfathomable and overflowing grace (Ephesians 3:16-19). All the fullness of God is grace that abundantly meets all our needs. These are the contents of all benedictions recorded in the New Testament. It is the content of the blessings contained in the end of the epistles, including the last verse of the first Gospel (Matthew 28:20b), which says, 'You are always with us even to the end of the world' (2 Corinthians 13:13).
Today's New Testament text (1 Thessalonians 5:16-22) describes the attitude a Christian should take before God. That's why it is called the 'Three Great Practices of the Saints'. 'Always rejoice! Pray without ceasing! Thank you for everything! This is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus” (16-18). Consider the state in which these words are not heard as the law, but as the gospel. Wouldn't it be nice to call it 'Christian happiness training'? The following words (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22) will also answer the question of ‘how?’ when you are trying to obey in detail. “Happiness is letting go of the thoughts that give birth to dissatisfaction and accepting the gift of heaven. It’s about letting go of the desire to have more and making what you already have the most valuable.” It is also a response to the life we walk in accordance with the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16).
