Title: People who worship / Psalm 29:1-2
Content There are several differences between humans and beasts. Humans have things that animals do not have, such as the ability to have written language and language and the ability to observe moral and ethical standards. But more importantly, they have awe and faith in the Absolute. Building a temple, a temple, and a church are only possible in the human world. No matter how high IQ chimpanzees are, there is no worship of God in their world. But no matter how savage and barbaric they may be, where they gather, there is worship and there is a church.
There are differences and problems in the object and method of worship, but finding, revering, and worshiping the Absolute is a religious act unique to humans. The ancients worshiped celestial bodies such as the sky, earth, sun, moon, and stars, and natural phenomena such as wind, rain, lightning, and thunder. It is called Nature Worship. There was an act of drawing or engraving something and carrying it around my body, believing that it would protect me. It is called Fetichsm.
Such human worship is ultimately idolatrous because it is an act of worshiping the creature as an absolute. Creatures are to worship and worship their Creator. The first commandment of the Ten Commandments was, "You shall have no other gods before me," and the second commandment was, "You shall not make for yourself a carved image." So, it is a big mistake to put a religion that deifies and worships creation and Christianity, which worships and worships the Creator as an absolute, into the same religious category.
In Psalm 29:1, the psalmist says, "Give glory and power to the LORD, you mighty ones."
Every human being, whoever he is or what he does, should glorify and worship God. The reason is simple. Because they are God's creation.
Psalm 29:1-2 explains to us what the attitude of worshiping God should be.
1. Worship must be continued.
In verse 1, it says, "Ascribe to the LORD, and give him glory and power."
It's normal for your body to work when you need to work, rest when you need to rest, eat when you need to eat, and sleep when you need to sleep. And you have to adjust the time and interval. And the rhythm has to be repeated. On the first day of the new year, you can't eat the whole year's worth of food. You can't get all the sleep that's been delayed by a year during the three-day vacation period. The same is true. Worship once a year, once a month, and once a week is not enough. Worship is an encounter with God and a time of fellowship. The closer you are, the more likely you are to meet. Then, when they become really close, they live together in the same house. To distance yourself from worship is to distance yourself from God.
There is nothing that can be done away from God. In Acts 8:26 and below, it is recorded that the minister in charge of the Ethiopian treasury came to Jerusalem to worship and met Philip on the way back and was baptized. It was a time when he was busy with national affairs and the traffic conditions were poor, but he still visited other countries to worship. And it is said that he played a big part in making Ethiopia a Christian nation by returning to his country. However, today's Ethiopia enters the world's poorest and most difficult country to live in. The reason is simple. They were living well, but God's blessing left Ethiopia after they abandoned their faith in God and neglected worship.
Until the 1950s, in the United States, all shopping malls were closed on weekends, and on Sundays, families went to church in formal dress. At that time, America's national power, economic influence, and political power were the greatest in the world. However, since the Democrats took power in the 1960s and the spiritual culture began to kneel to the fierce challenges of secular culture, Americans closed their doors on weekends and went to the beach, the mountains, and the bars. Churches began to empty, and more and more churches were closing their doors or selling church buildings. From then on, America took wings and began to fall. All over the world, prestige fell, the economy faltered, and morals began to fall to the ground.
In a nutshell, when Americans turned away from God and embraced worship, God gave up on them. This is not my story, it is the story of Americans who care about America. The Puritans, who originally left England, landed in the New World of America and built a church to worship God first with the farming they built in the first year. The Puritan spirit is the spirit of worshiping God.
The poet sings. 'Turn around and turn around'.
2. We must offer proper worship. Verse 2 says, ?쏥ive the Lord the glory that is due to his name.??The method of worship in the Old Testament times was sacrifice. All sacrifices must be made according to the established law. The method of choosing the sacrifice, the method of slaughtering and offering the sacrifice, the method of the priest conducting the sacrifice, etc. were set in detail. However, in the case of the New Testament, the basic spirit and attitude are given importance.
In John 4:24, the Lord said, ?쏽ou must worship in spirit and in truth,??and in Romans 12:1, Paul said, ?쏰ffer your bodies as living sacrifices acceptable to God.??Worship is what God accepts. That object is God. Therefore, we must offer worship that is worthy of God's acceptance. Specifically, let's think about how to provide proper worship.
First, you need to prepare in advance. Prepare in advance such as the Bible, hymns, clothing, donations, and attitude, and do not rush or act in a hurry on the day.
3. It must be presented beautifully and holy.
In the second half of verse 2, it says, ?쏻orship the Lord in holy clothes.??The holy clothes here mean beautiful clothes adorned with holiness. . It was a holy and beautiful garment made with the finest fabrics and embroidered gold stamens. Because it is a garment worn to meet God, it must be beautiful and neat. With the development of dress culture, modern people come into contact with various and stylish clothes. It is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between men and women in clothes as the gender distinction is becoming blurred. But it is clear that the first human beings to wear clothes was to cover the shame of their nakedness. So, you must not wear any clothes that are ugly and disgusting. Especially, the clothes you wear to meet God should be even more beautiful.
Psalm 84:3 says, ?쏷he sparrow has found a home in your house, and the swallow has found a nest for its young.??And in 84:4, it says, ?쏝lessed are those who dwell in your house.??In 29:11 it says, "The LORD gives strength to his people, and the LORD gives peace to his people." that this blessing is given.
The conclusion is self-evident. To stay away from worship is to distance yourself from God. When I distance myself from God, I distance myself from God. And traffic is blocked. I become a person who has nothing to do with God. What would be the result? Let's do our best in worship. Let's do our best in our worship life. Let's be people who worship God.
