Title: People with Paul 4 Silas
Content: People with Paul 4 Silas
It was Paul who changed the history of Christianity.
Everyone who was with Paul was Paul's co-workers. Later, God will commend them all for co-winning.
The person who leads the way is important, but the person who gives from the back is also important. Silas is one of the most important people next to Paul. From now on, I will try to track down Sila.
two names
Another name for Sila is Siluano. It appears as Silas in Acts and as Silvanus in Paul's epistles.
In other words, Luke calls Silas, and Paul calls Silvanos.
(Acts 17;1, 10)
There are three men who planted the Thessalonian church. Paul and Silas.
But when I later write to the Thessalonian church, I am writing in the name of three people.
(1 Thessalonians 1:1)
Therefore, it can be seen that Sila and Silvano are the same person.
Silvano is a Latin name. Sila was a nickname. Paul used his official name when he wrote his epistles.
So what kind of person was Silas?
1. middle role
There were many Christians in Antioch. Antioch was the third largest city in Europe at the time. After Rome and Alexandria, it was Antioch. Therefore, the evangelization of Antioch was a very encouraging event.
But a problem arose. The question arose whether Gentile Christians who first accepted Jesus should believe like Jews. Should I be circumcised like a Jew? Should I wear a kipa like a Jew? Should we keep the Passover like the Jews did? Several problems arose. At that time the apostles in Jerusalem had a council. So he delivered the letter to those who received Jesus in Antioch. Nowadays, there are letters, e-mails, and Hobbs. However, at that time, it had to be sent by hand. At that time, Paul and Barnabas were selected by the church in Jerusalem.
They chose Judas and Silas. And he gave them a letter and sent them to Antioch. That story is in Acts 15.
(Acts 15;22-29)
The conclusion of the letter was a proclamation of liberation, which meant that we did not have to bear the burdens of the Jews.
(Acts 15;28-32)
I will not burden you, but I have sent you a shortened law to abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from fornication. What does it mean to be elected as a representative of the Jerusalem church?
It means that Silas was a good middleman. I mean, he was someone I could entrust with. It must be recognized that it is time for the superior to select the person.
Silas was such a recognized person.
2. A prophet with the spirit of prophecy
Silas not only delivered letters, but also prophesied and comforted and loved. There was spirituality. The Bible says so.
(Acts 15;27-33)
3. Another person elected
Silas was chosen by the Jerusalem church as a representative and sent to Antioch. At that time, I worked with Paul. Paul took good care of Silas while working with him.
In chapter 15, Silas becomes a representative like Paul. And Paul had a big fight with Barnabas. Chapter 15 is the second half. So Barnabas took Mark and went to Cyprus. Paul had no co-workers.
At that time, Silas was called as a co-worker, and Paul started working with Silas from that time on.
(Acts 15:39-40)
Sila was the person I wanted to work with once and then work with them again. There are people who will try to work once. But Silas was different.
When Paul became lonely, when Paul lost his co-worker, Silas filled the place. You can get to know Sila's personality here.
Another reason Paul chose Silas as his co-worker is found in the Bible. Because both Paul and Silas had Roman citizenship. There is evidence for that.
Paul and Silas were imprisoned while preaching the gospel in Philippi. I was beaten to death. They were also handcuffed. At that time, Paul and Silas were singing and praying in prison. The octet shook and the door opened. The handcuffs were also released. I was surprised and let it go. Then Paul said.
(Acts 6:37-40)
As you can see, Silas was a Roman citizen. Therefore, having Roman citizenship at that time was the highest citizenship. It would have been convenient for Paul to travel through the Roman occupied territories with the same citizenship.
For one reason or another, Paul chose Silas to be his co-worker.
Once we have fellowship, we must become the chosen people again to become God's people.
4. Peter's co-worker
Traces of Silas later working with Peter can be found in the Bible.
(1 Peter 5:12)
By the time Peter wrote 1 Peter, he must have already been weakened to the point of being unable to write. Or maybe my eyes were blurred. We can't find a reason for that in the Bible. I'm just guessing. But one thing is clear.
It is true that 1 Peter was written by Silas, as Peter said. This shows that Silas also worked with Peter.
In this way, it can be seen that Silas was a worker who always worked with God's workers.
Sila was, in a word, a worker who helped great people.
An important leader of the early church. When I delivered the facts of the Jerusalem church to the Antioch church, I went as a special envoy and followed Paul and Barnabas.
went (line
16:19) He appears to have had Roman citizenship (Acts 16:36) and became a good companion of Paul during his second missionary journey (Acts 16:19).
Siluano is the Latin name for Silas (2 Corinthians 1:19; 1 Thessalonians 1:1; 2 Thessalonians 1:1).
