God commanded Moses. When Aaron and his sons, who were in charge of the priesthood at that time, pray for the people of Israel, they must pray as follows.
1. Contents of Blessing
① It is to bless and pray for God to protect you.
Verse 24 says, “The Lord bless you and keep you.” Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman is vigilant in vain.”
② It means to pray for God to give you grace.
Verse 25 says, “The Lord wants his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.” “Let your face shine upon you” means “have mercy.” God's grace and love for mankind, who have sinned against God and have fallen, are due to God's unconditional love and mercy without limits.
③ Pray for God to give you peace.
Verse 26 says, “The Lord will turn his face upon you, and give you peace.” It is to pray for peace. In the text, “peace” means “shalom”.
2. Characteristics of blessing
The characteristics of the blessing prayer in the text are as follows.
① The source of all blessings is God.
Verse 27 says, “So they shall bless the children of Israel in my name, and I will bless them.” God is the source of blessing. Psalm 16:2 says, "I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord, and I have no good besides you."
② It means that physical, spiritual, and mental blessings are included at the same time.
Man is a physical being, a spiritual being as well as a spiritual being. In 3 John verse 2, in the Apostle John's prayer, he said, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in good health, as your soul prospers."
③ The work of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit was enumerated.
The benediction of the New Testament also said, “May the grace of Jesus Christ, and the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you.” We prayed in the name of the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
3. Influence of Blessings
All saints are people of blessing. Abraham was a man of blessing.
Luke 10:5 When Jesus sent out 70 men and sent them out two by two to evangelize, he said the following things. “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be with this house. If there is someone there to receive peace, your empty peace will rest with him, otherwise it will return to you.”
