Peter's Sermon 2
Acts 2:22-36
I will continue with Peter's sermon.
There are two key points in today's text: resurrection and life.
The core resurrection and life of Christianity cannot be learned only by understanding. Unlike other religions, Christianity has a life name. There is a resurrection. Other religions have ethics, but no resurrection and no life.
This is why we must believe in Jesus. No matter how well you teach ethics and morals, what good is it if there is no life immortalized in it?
There is only Jesus who died on the cross, but people do not remember the resurrected Jesus.
Peter's central sermon is the living Jesus.
First - Sermon on the Risen Jesus
Peter opened his mouth and preached in verse 22, “Men of Israel, listen to this saying: you know that God testified before you through Jesus of Nazareth, who performed great powers and wonders and signs among you.”
When Jesus came to this earth, he was not born into a family of great power. He had the status of being the king of the whole universe, but when He came to this earth, He came into the world as a very low and lowly person. So it was Jesus who had nothing to draw people's attention to. But God reveals that He is the Messiah they are waiting for by giving Jesus great powers, wonders, and miracles. God made Jesus known as the Messiah through the miracles and miracles that he performed, and while they saw the miracles and miracles that he performed, no one considered Jesus the Messiah. Why? They thought that the Messiah they were waiting for would come as King of Israel, and now they would set them free from Roman domination. I never thought that He would come as poor and lowly and lowly.
Rather, they make Jesus the fake Messiah and kill him.
-They did not recognize Jesus the Messiah, who they had been waiting so long for. They thought that the Messiah was a man of high command and power. But Jesus is not some class of Jesus. Jesus is the one who came to save all people.
Because they were not awake, they could not recognize the Messiah as the Messiah even though he was near. Because their eyes and ears were closed, they could not accept Jesus as the Messiah even though he was with them.
Our faith is the same. We always long for Jesus, we want to walk with Jesus, and we want to hear Jesus' voice, but why can't we?
It's because of my bias. And because I am central. We never know when or in what form Jesus will come to us. However, if we are not spiritually awake, even when Jesus is right in front of us, our eyes are darkened and our ears are closed, so sometimes we cannot hear the voice of the Lord. If you are vigilant and do not stay awake, that is what will happen. Please stay awake. And please pray always. Although the Jews did not meet the Messiah they had always longed for and had come close to, we pray that they will become believers who always welcome and accompany Jesus.
However, we see through the text that Peter is revealing through the sermon that this is God's will to be fulfilled through David's prophecy early on.
Acts 2:25-32 "David said to him, "I have always seen the Lord before me; he is at my right hand, that I may not be moved. Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my lips rejoiced, and my body rejoiced in hope. I will dwell in hell, for you will not leave my soul in hell, nor will you let your Holy One suffer corruption. You have shown me the way of life, and you will fill me with joy in your presence.” Brothers, I can speak boldly about my father David. No, David died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. He was a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn an oath that he would put one of his descendants to sit upon him, because he had foreseen the resurrection of Christ, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ, saying, “He will not be abandoned in hell, nor will his flesh see corruption.” This Jesus was raised by God. We are all witnesses of this.”
David has already foretold the coming of the Messiah through his prophecies, and he also foretold that He would die and rise again.
Because Jesus died and rose again, His tomb was empty, and because of His resurrection, we testify to what happened to many people in 40 days.
As I always say, the essence of the gospel is not the end of death, but the resurrection.
We must see not only the dead cross, but also the empty tomb of the risen life. Then despair becomes hope and death becomes life.
Although it is a difficult and difficult time, we pray that people of faith will become believers who believe that our lives will be changed into hope and life when we see and believe in the Resurrection Jesus who has overcome death, frustration and despair!
Second - Jesus is Lord and Christ
What does Peter say about Jesus at the end of his sermon? It says “Lord and Christ.”
This means that in those days the only place where the Romans could call “Lord” and “Christ” was the emperor and the Jews had no other place to call “God”. In a way, his sermon was a very dangerous sermon. It was not only a sermon that could touch the nerves of Rome, but also a sermon that could go against the hearts of Jews. But Peter speaks to them with boldness and coherence.
In the past, Peter was a coward. That's why he denied Jesus. But after I was filled with the Holy Spirit, my fear disappeared. No, rather than fear disappearing, hope arose.
What is your hope? It is a hope for heaven. In the past, when there was no hope for the kingdom of heaven, I was very afraid of losing my life. But the conviction and belief that he had eternal life after believing in Jesus properly and receiving the Holy Spirit made him bold.
It is also because he completely accepted Jesus as “Lord” and “Christ”.
What does “Lord and Christ” mean?
First, the word “Christ” is the Greek word “soter”, which means “savior, savior, saver of life.”
Second, the word “Lord” is the Greek word “kyrios” which means “master, ruler, king” and the opposite word is “dulos,” which means servant.
Jesus became “Lord and Christ” under the hot springs by being crucified, dying and resurrecting. You have overcome the power of death and the devil and Satan. He is the ruler of the whole world. Therefore, we no longer have to fear or be afraid of the world. Be bold like Peter. We must boldly proclaim and evangelize Christ!
We often pray and often admit Jesus as “Lord” or “Christ.”
But there are many times when “Lord” cannot be “Lord.”
Your lips say you are Lord, but how much do you make “Lord” “Lord”? “Lord” means my master or ruler. Then, any command or any word must be obeyed 100%. That is the attitude of a “believer” who can truly accept Jesus as “Lord” and the attitude of a “servant”.
But where are the people? Although we say “Lord” with our lips, how often do our actions go against the Lord’s commands or will?
If it does not match my thoughts, I will not obey. If it doesn't work for me, I don't obey. If something bad happens to me, I don't obey. But true servants and those who have Jesus as their “Lord” don't care about that. Whatever it is, whatever the Lord asks us to do, to obey is to acknowledge Jesus as our servant and “Lord”.
Jesus' first work was to turn water into wine.
The average Jewish day of the week is about a week. It is not a one-day feast. That's why we always serve delicious wine at feasts. However, due to the large number of guests, the wine used for the early feast ran out. It is difficult for a guest to run out of wine at a feast that should have been fun and enjoyable for a long time.
Perhaps it was the feast of one of Jesus' relatives. Jesus was there, and his mother Mary was also there. When the wine ran out, Mary called to Jesus and asked that the banquet be out of wine. And Mary calls the servants and tells them to obey 100% of what Jesus says.
Jesus tells us to prepare a jar and fill it with water.
Conceptually, this is incomprehensible. Even those servants don't quite understand it. But they did not ask Jesus, “I can’t because I don’t understand,” just because they didn’t understand. They just obeyed. They didn't try to understand with their heads. I just obeyed. Then Jesus turned the jar full of water into “wine.” It is also the best quality wine.
Only obedience is required to make “Lord” “Lord”. We only need “obedience” to make “Christ” “Christ”. Everything is done by the Lord. A servant has no powers or authority.
“Obedience” is necessary for all members of Jesus Life Church to make “Lord” become “Lord”. I hope that you will be obedient saints.
