Title (1 Peter 1:17-21) Redemption Through Blood
Contents Ecclesiastes 1:17-21 Redemption by Blood
It is Lent now. It is a period of meditating on the sufferings of Jesus for 40 days from February 17th to March 28th. The structure of today's text is that, as children of God, we fear God and we can live holy (17). And from verse 18, the knowledge of the atonement of Christ gives the reason. Conversely, the lack of understanding of Christ's atonement and subsistence rights is perhaps the greatest enemy of our faith life. As our knowledge grows, so does our faith. But ignorance of this breeds unbelief. Therefore, I hope you can better understand the atonement of Christ and the blessings it brings through this text.
1. We are redeemed in Christ (18a).
Redemption, or redemption, refers to the release of a person sold into slavery by giving a ransom to his master. Then from whom and from what are we redeemed? The text says, “You have been redeemed from the vain deeds you have inherited from your forefathers.” But this is part of the story, but not the complete story. We have been redeemed from the power of Satan (Colossians 1:13). We are also redeemed from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13). As a result of the Atonement, we have received the title of sons of God. In Christ we are blessed (Ephesians 1:3). May you be acquainted with the powers and benefits of the atonement that belong to you in Christ.
2. We have been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ (18b-20).
The price of our ransom was not silver or gold. Even with silver and gold, you can buy precious things. The more precious blood of Christ was paid for our ransom. How much is his blood worth? Since life is in blood, blood is the same as life (Leviticus 17:11,14). A human life is much more precious than a sheep or a calf. Unlike other people, Jesus is without sin, so his blood is unique and of infinite value. Especially since his blood has the life of the Son of God, it has eternal value. Because he was foreordained before the foundation of the world and revealed in the last days (20), his blood is a precious thing that cannot be compared with silver or gold. We have been redeemed by this blood.
3. We can enjoy the blessing of redemption through faith (21).
We are believers in God who gave atonement through the blood of Christ. Those who have received the gift of faith through Christ, the content of the atonement (Ephesians 2:8). Dear saints, how can we experience the effects of the atonement of the blood of Christ? The Bible teaches that a person believes with the heart and confesses with the mouth (Romans 10:9-10). If you believe the word of God with your heart and confess it with your mouth, it becomes reality for you.
There are things to be careful about when you believe and confess the atonement of the blood of Christ. Does the text say that we are redeemed? Or are you saying you will get it? Please note that you have already been redeemed without saying that you will receive a ransom. Many saints miss out on this a lot.
Dear saints, I hope that you will receive abundant blessings through faith by knowing the gospel of the atonement right away.
