Title: Philip's Weak Faith/John 6:1-7

Philip's Weak Faith / John 6:1-7

“After that, Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee in Tiberias… ” (John 6:1-7)

Word: When Jesus healed the sick, a great crowd followed. However, they do not automatically become believers. We have to make the crowd into believers, and we need to nurture believers as disciples. In addition to the love of Jesus to feed the crowd, the miracles of the five fish contain the purpose of training Philip.

It was the Passover period. The Passover is a festival to commemorate the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, where their firstborn son died. After the Passover, the Israelites escaped from Egypt and began to live in the wilderness. In the wilderness, the Israelites eat manna from heaven. The crowd who came to Jesus at the Passover also ate the manna.

To Jesus' words, Philip responds that he needs 200 denarii, even if he gives them little by little. Of course, Philip's calculations must have been correct. But this is not the answer Jesus is looking for. You misread the author's intentions. Philip's answer lacked faith. God is not assumed in Philip's calculations. It has nothing to do with non-believers. We too often insist on a way of life that does not reflect the variables of faith at all. So what does it mean to believe in God? In Philip's words, there was no God, the most important variable in life.

Since Philip does not have 200 denarii, he concludes that it is impossible. Look carefully at Jesus' question. Jesus was asking about the place of ‘where’ (verse 5). But Philip answered with the amount of “how much” (verse 7). It is the answer to the question about the place in amount. This is a peer-reviewed answer. Where the food comes from has changed to a question of how much food is needed. Food comes from God. Giving manna for 40 years in the wilderness is the repeated learning that taught us that food comes from God. The miracle of the manna and the five fish is a miraculous parable that shows that Jesus is the food of life. Where does our food come from? The miracles of Oh Byung-e are recorded in all four Gospels. In the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, it is recorded that Jesus gave it through his disciples, but in the Gospel of John, Jesus is sharing the bread. This is John's intention to show that Jesus is the bread of life. It is also understandable that the Passover is near.
