Title: Praise of Jehovah's Mighty Deeds/Isaiah 25

Content Praise for Jehovah's Mighty Deeds

Isaiah 25

1. Praise God who will judge the fallen city (1-5)

① The object of praise is the faithful God (1)

The text confesses, “O Lord, you are my God.” These praises are sincere confessions that flow after experiencing the work of God's judgment. Previously, Moses and the people of Israel made the same confession after experiencing the Exodus event. Seeing God's amazing work of redemption, the prophet realizes that only God should be exalted, and emphasizes that God is the only object of praise.

② Even in the midst of judgment against the fallen city, there are cities that fear God.(2,3)

The fallen city is brought to a state from which it cannot be restored by the judgment of God. But the peoples and nations that have witnessed God's judgment on the city glorify and fear the Lord. The history of the nations that did not believe in God's judgment return to God appears.

③ God shows love and mercy even in the process of judgment.(4,5)

God is a severe judge, but he is also a loving God who cares for the weak. This love of God becomes the ultimate basis for salvation.

2. God's Blessed Banquet (6-8)

① Eschatology, the nature of the kingdom of God (6)

Isaiah describes God's judgment and the beginning of God's salvation after it ends as a feast. The blessing of the kingdom of God is the time of the feast of blessing.

② God's banquet appears as a comforting figure (7,8)

God's banquet is where all evil and sin are removed and only eternal joy and praise are achieved, and God's people are comforted.

3. Praise Jehovah's Salvation (9-12)

① The day of the Lord will be a day of praise to those who believe (9)

Even in the midst of suffering and persecution, godly people who wait for God will come to the eschatological period to face God directly and be filled with joy. Therefore, believers should not lose faith in any situation and look forward to God.

② Moab against Israel will be destroyed in the day of the Lord (10-12)

On the other hand, Moab, who opposed Israel in the day of the Lord, will be destroyed. Moab is a typical enemy nation of God's people.

Isaiah, therefore, contrasts the praise of Israel with the destruction of Moab, thus clearly revealing the ambivalent character of the day of the Lord.

The day of the Lord is a day of comfort and salvation for the covenant people, but a day of destruction and judgment for the proud.
