Title: Prayer / Matthew 6:9-15
words to enter
Last time we looked at prayer that was not right. The prayers of the Pharisees who try to be seen by people and the prayers of the Gentiles who repeat themselves over and over are clearly wrong prayers. So, what is proper prayer? In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus tells his disciples that they should also learn to pray.
Luke 11:1 When Jesus had finished praying in one place, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples to pray."
The method of prayer that Jesus taught is the Lord's Prayer. However, if you subtract the prayer of the Lord's Prayer, it becomes a spell. If the prayer taught by the Lord becomes like a mantra recited at the end of worship, then there is a problem.
There is a person I met when I was hospitalized in Daejeon. That person is Kim Soon-gil.
* Mr. Kim Soon-gil (breast cancer, metastasis to lymph nodes - ): Unable to go to church due to her husband's objection and mother-in-law's opposition Attendance service. One day, he was appointed as a butler. However, due to opposition from his family, he was unable to attend the worship service and failed to keep his promise to attend Sunday worship, but then cancer recurred and he was hospitalized. Now that I remember that promise, I am sorry to God and I am moved to tears. Now, he said he would worship every day, and the next evening he offered 5,000 won, but he confessed that he didn't know how to pray. Am I not confessing that even a deacon does not know how to pray? Then, how did you pray during difficult times? It was said that the Lord's Prayer was recited unconditionally. I taught you how to pray in the Lord's Prayer.
text interpretation
The beginning of the Lord's Prayer is the Father in Heaven. Prayer begins with the relationship of calling God Father. We can call God our Father because we believe in Jesus and the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Calling God Father in the relationship of prayer with the Holy Spirit is the beginning of prayer.
Prayer is what we have to do when we receive Jesus. Prayer begins only when we have a relationship where we can call God our Father. Receiving Jesus means that the Holy Spirit dwells within me without even knowing it.
Matthew 18:3 "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Just as little children trust their father, so the meaning of trust in God is in Abba.
Romans 8:15 Because you received no more the spirit of bondage to fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption, so we cry, Abba, Father.
8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
Gal 4:6 Because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of the Son into our hearts, calling him Abba, Father.
Hallowed be your name
There are these kinds of names for God. : El Shaddai: The Almighty / Elohim: The One to fear / The Lord: The One I am The meaning of this text is not to pray for God to be sanctified, but to receive the proper treatment of a holy God as a holy person. It is a prayer of petition, asking us not to be despised by the thoughts and actions of those made in God's image.
come to the country
Emphasizes the sovereignty of God. I often see our misconceptions about the country. Heaven is not just a place where souls flinch after death. The Bible says that the kingdom of God has already come. It is Jesus who came to confirm this. Jesus showed that the kingdom had already come. The realm of God's reign the miracle of expelling the devil, the miracle of healing, and the miracles of walking on water and governing all things in nature are events that show the coming of the kingdom. Did we know the country too? For those who do not believe in Jesus, joy, peace, and love are in us. Especially when I see cancer patients, I want to pray. It confirms that the power of the country is coming and prays for healing. Why do you think such a miracle is impossible? The kingdom of God is now coming with power among us. As a result of the coming of the kingdom, God's will is accomplished among humans.
The following text consists of our three petitions.
1) Give us our daily bread.
This is a physical petition. It is a prayer for the basics of livelihood, the needs of everyday life. It is important to note that this is an area that we should not seek with our greed or greed. The Lord's Prayer is asking us to pray for food and livelihood, which are the most fundamental of our bodies. It is necessary to pray for the unemployed, the poor, and the missionary expenses of missionaries.
2) Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
The next verse is not expressed in Korean, but continues with the Greek word "kai" and. This means that human survival is not enough with food. Forgiveness of sins and salvation from evil must be combined. This is because humans are spiritual beings, not physical beings like animals. The Greek word for sin used here is ohheiremata, which is a commercial term. Crime places the criminal in debt to God. Just as the debtors are slaves to the creditors, when a person sins, they must pay their debts. Jesus came for this purpose. He forgave us all our debts by dying on the cross.
But take a look at this text. There are parts that are easy to misunderstand. It does not mean that my sins are forgiven as we have to forgive others' sins as we forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. I mean contrast, not comparison. It represents a causal effect, not a meritorious condition. If you are a saint who has received atonement, you should forgive your brother's mistakes, but not always seven times, but seventy times each.
3) Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Deliverance from temptation and evil is a petition to deliver us from the temptations of the world and from all the evil that prevails now. This is to pray that communion with God will not be cut off. What I have discovered in the Lord's Prayer so far is that the Trinity is reflected in the Lord's Prayer. The creation and providence of God the Father provided our daily bread, and the forgiveness of our sins was assured through the atonement of God the Son. It is the fact that the indwelling power of God the Holy Spirit guarantees our safety and victory. Therefore, every prayer must be an extension or a reduction in the prayer the Lord has taught us.
apply
Now I will tell you how to pray through the Lord's Prayer. Once, I made a prayer for the Disciples Church.
* Examples of prayer methods according to the Lord's Prayer
May your name be sanctified through the Church of the Father in Heaven.
May God's will be done in the Discipleship Church, so that the peace and peace of the kingdom of God fill the lives of the souls who come to the church so that the happiness of the kingdom of God may be fulfilled
I pray that your children in the Disciples Church will experience the guidance of God who fills their daily bread every day and fill the church's finances and needs so that the evangelism work will not cease so that they can experience that it is a Discipleship Church with God.
God! The Disciples Church, please forgive each other's sins in the Lord so that we can become a loving community in the name of the Lord, and protect us from the power of evil Satan.
The owner of the Disciples Church is the Father. Please do not allow it to be operated according to the will of man, and let it be a church that is the body of the Lord that is operated under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and glorifies only the Father.
By changing the object of our prayer in this way, we can pray according to the principle of the Lord's Prayer. If we pray for the country, pray for North Korea, and pray for our children according to the principle of the Lord's Prayer, if we pray for 10 quarters, it is not a prayer without words, but a prayer that can be prayed for 1 or 2 hours. In doing so, our prayers become deeper and more specific. Today is Mother's Day, so let's pray according to the principle of the Lord's Prayer for parents and children for their parents.
Let's pray together.
