2. Prayer Life
Verse 2, be steadfast in prayer and be awake in prayer with thanksgiving*****
The Apostle Paul exhorts the new man about his family life and social life. From now on, he is referring to the new man's prayer life. One of the key keys to the Christian faith is prayer. Prayer is both a Christian duty and a privilege. However, the prayer mentioned here is not a prayer that is capricious and drenched in habit and covetousness, but it is a prayer that continues without ceasing.
Some even described prayer as work. Because prayer requires patience. The Bible always showed persistence in answered prayers are teaching you Abraham's earnest prayer for Lot (Genesis 18:22,23), Moses' earnest prayer for Israel (Exodus 17:8,16), Daniel's 21-day fasting prayer (Daniel 10:1,21), and Jesus The prayer that God shed blood and sweat for us (Luke 22:39,460, etc.) All prayers have in common is patience and sacrifice.
And indispensable in prayer is thanksgiving. This thanksgiving is said to be the end of prayer. A prayer that does not include thanksgiving cannot be said to be a true prayer. So what should we be thankful for? Everything that happens in our lives. In other words, the grace you have kept until now and prayers in the past have been answered. And what we should be thankful for throughout our lives is the sacrificial love that Jesus Christ shed on the cross for us.
Also, in the end times, we Christians must always be awake as we reflect on ourselves in prayer while waiting for the Lord to come again.
Verse 3, Pray also for us, that God may give us a door to preach, that we may tell the mystery of Christ; for this I have been bound. ******
Verse 4, then I will reveal this mystery with what I ought to say.***
Verse 5, Act wisely toward strangers and save time.******
Verses 5 and 6 refer to the attitude a Christian should take in the world. In particular, in relationships with non-Christians, we advise you to be careful not only to not allow unbelievers to feel an invisible distance, but also to be awake so that you do not become stained by this world.
And we emphasize that we should strive for our own development by using our limited time more efficiently and always lead a valuable life.
Verse 6, Let your words be always with grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each one.
Here, verse 5 continues to refer to the Christian's words. A Christian talks a lot during evangelism, so you have to be careful with what you say at this time.
The Apostle Paul exhorts us to prayerfully try to always say things that will bring joy and a good impression to others.
There is an old saying, “If you count money once and count it wrong, you can count it again, but if you make a mistake once, you can't take it back. It happened to a couple who had been married for 6 years. They often quarreled in their marriage over disagreements. However, in the midst of many quarrels, he never said that he wanted a divorce. Then one day, my wife got so excited by a violent fight that she said, “Let’s get a divorce instead of fighting like this.” It is said that my 벹 words were mentioned whenever there was an argument, and eventually divorced each other.
The words he said eventually led to the collapse of the family. Therefore, we Christians should always be careful with our words and pray that the Holy Spirit will help us at every moment so that we can speak wisely and necessary words each time.
