Text / Mark 11:20-24
Prayer can move the world (George Dueell). It is like building a wall of Venus around us (Calvin). Prayer is the most time-saving thing. Because when God works, he is stronger and faster than anyone else. Prayer is a way that can provide power for those scattered all over the world.
1. What is the reason?
1) The Holy Spirit comes upon us when we pray (Luke 11:13).
"If ye, though evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him."
- When we pray, the best gift from God, the Holy Spirit, works.
① It was the Lord's promise. (Acts 1:4-5,14)
(Acts 1:4-5) "They gathered together with the apostles and commanded them, saying, "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you have heard from me." (5) John baptized with water, but you You will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." - The promise before ascension, the coming of the Holy Spirit after the ascension, and the promise of fullness (Acts 1:14) "With the women, Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the brothers of Jesus, we were of the same mind and had no strength in prayer. It's bitter" - Hold on to an appointment and gather together to focus.
② When we believed in that promise and prayed, the Holy Spirit (God of power) came upon us. (Acts 2:1-13)
(Acts 2:1-5) "When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all gathered together in one place.
(2) Suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a rushing strong wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
(3) And they saw them splitting like tongues of fire, and it rested upon each one.
(4) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." - Pentecost
③ It also came to Samaria. (Acts 8:4-8) - The work of the Holy Spirit also appeared in Samaria.
(Acts 8:4-8) "The scattered people went about preaching the word of the gospel.
(5) Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to the people.
(6) And the crowds heard Philip's words, and saw the signs that he performed, and with one accord they followed what he said.
(7) And the unclean spirits that had been attached to many went out with a loud voice, and many paralyzed and lame were healed.
(8) There was great joy in that city."
2) The Holy Spirit uses angels in prayer.
- The Holy Spirit, who works in prayer, commands the ministering angels.
① We have the authority to use angels in prayer. - Right to request angel mobilization
Because we are children of God and angels are servants.
② The purpose of creation of angels is revealed in Hebrews 1:14.
"Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" - Angels are obliged to serve the saints.
③ Tell all our prayers to God and keep them. (Rev 8:3-5)
(Rev 8:3-5) “Another angel came and stood by the altar, and took a golden censer, and received much incense, that he might offer it on the golden altar before the throne, along with the prayers of all the saints.
(4) The incense went up from the angel's hand to God together with the prayers of the saints.
(5) And the angel took the censer, and put the fire on the altar, and poured it on the earth, and there were thunders and voices and lightnings and an earthquake.
- Angels receive (receive) our prayers and come to the throne of God, and at the same time receive and bring God's answers (thunder, voice, lightning, earthquake).
④ This cannot be realized through science, medicine, law, or political science, but can be realized through spiritual facts and the grace of the Holy Spirit.
.Elijah was helped by water and bread - When he was in the midst of the greatest crisis of his life, God sent an angel to Elijah who had fallen by the brook of Cherit, and sent water and bread to minister to him so that he could be refreshed.
.He protected Elisha's house - The Arameans were besieging and arresting the city of Dothan where Elisha lived, but God sent the army of heaven to protect him.
.Daniel was protected in the lions' den - To frame Daniel who prayed three times a day, his enemies used a trick to make him enter the lions' den, but he sent an angel to the lions' den in advance and sealed the lions' mouths. The angels treated Daniel as friendly. However, when the enemies were thrown into the lions' den, they were swallowed up before they even reached the bottom.
.Protected three young men from the fire - Shadrach Meshach Abednego did not give in to the threat of King Nebuchadnezzar and decided to go into the fire rather than bow down to idols, but believed in God's protection. He protected him from damaging a single hair on his head.
.Peter was rescued from prison. - Preaching the Gospel The saints united in prayer in Acts 12 for Peter who was imprisoned, and an angel of the Lord was sent and Peter was released.
3) As the Holy Spirit comes upon us when we pray, Satan is bound and evil spirits are cast out.
① Matthew 12:28-29 - The strong man, Satan, is bound before the name of the Lord by the power of the Holy Spirit.
“But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has already come upon you. Then I will plunder that house."
② Acts 8:4-8 - The Holy Spirit came on Philip who preached the gospel, and the power of Satan (demon) left
“As the scattered people went about preaching the gospel, (5) Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to the people. (6) The crowds heard Philip’s words and saw the signs he performed, and with one accord they followed what he said. (8) And there was great joy in the city, when the unclean spirits that had been attached to many went out with a loud voice, and many paralyzed and lame were healed.”
③ Matthew 8:16-17 - The Lord, who was filled with the Holy Spirit, broke the power of Satan wherever he went.
“At evening, people brought many demon-possessed people to Jesus, and Jesus cast out demons with the word and healed all the sick (17), as it was said through the prophet Isaiah that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. It was meant to be accomplished."
④ Acts 16:16-18 - Paul, who was preaching the gospel, was filled with the Holy Spirit and commanded a demon, and the demon left They followed Paul and us and shouted, "These are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation." (18) And they spent many days like this. So I command you to come out of him, and the demon came out immediately."
Therefore, prayer can do anything.
2. How should we pray?
1) You must listen carefully to the words of Jesus and believe (Mark 11:20-21).
“As they passed by in the morning, when they saw a fig tree withered from its roots, (21) Peter remembered and said, “Rabbi, behold, the fig tree you cursed has dried up.” - Peter did not listen to what Jesus said. But in the evening, he was surprised to see the fig tree that Jesus had cursed withered and died. Therefore, we must carefully receive and believe Jesus' words.
2) In whose power do you believe in prayer? (Mark 11:22)
“Jesus answered and said to them, Believe in God.”
- Believing in God's power, not man's power, is prayer.
3) Prayer makes the absolutely impossible possible. What does mountain mean?
(Mark 11:23) “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, believing that what he says will come true, it will be done for him.”
- A mountain that seems impossible to move at all, and it is supposed to move before prayer. Mountains refer to things that are impossible for humans. That is, even a large prayer topic is answered as a prayer.
4) How should we pray?
① There must be no doubt. (Mark 11:24)
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
- Those who doubt are like the waves of the sea, so let them not even think that they will receive anything from the Lord!
② When will it be answered? (Mark 11:24)
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
- Respond when you think you have already received it
③ Whose ability should we measure? (Mark 11:22-23)
"Jesus answered them and said to them, "Believe in God. 23 I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, believing that what he says will come true, it will be done for him."
- You must have faith in God. We have to look at events from God's level. It is the Word movement and prayer movement in order to have the level of God.
