Title: Praying President
president praying
Text: Isaiah 58:6
“Is not the fast with which I am pleased to loosen the bonds of iniquity, to untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to break every yoke?”
There is a place called Valleyforge, Pennsylvania, where Washington, the first president of the United States, had the most difficult time of his life. Designating this very park as a park, the historic site is still preserved. In this park is the Washington Memorial Church, where George Washington's prayer is recorded as follows. "Almighty God! I believe that only God can protect America. May the leaders of this country obey God's Word and have true brotherly love for the people. May the leaders lead a righteous life, Help me to love mercy and be humble servants of the people in order to build a happy nation."
“Be persevering in prayer, watchful in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2)
Abraham Lincoln was a praying president. In the Civil War, when the situation of the Union army became unfavorable, Thursday, April 30, 1863, was declared as the 'Day of Fasting and Prayer' and appealed to all the people to participate.
On one occasion, popular actor James Murdoch was staying at the White House at Lincoln's invitation and was woken up in the morning by Lincoln's prayer.
Lincoln often visited the battlefield to comfort his soldiers, and even then he prayed earnestly. When he prayed, a “white handkerchief” would be hung at the entrance of the command barracks.
Lincoln confessed after the war: “The victory of the Union Army was a victory of prayer. It was rather fortunate that we did not have any competent masters. Because we were able to rely more on God through prayer.”
It is said that Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, was also a president who always devoted himself to prayer.
As such, the United States has been able to become the most powerful country in the world thanks to many praying presidents.
President Lee Myung-bak of our country is also said to always strive to pray for the country and people.
As many Christians, including the President, are praying for our country and people, I believe that our country will have hope and become a country overflowing with righteousness, peace, and joy.
“It is sanctified by the word of God and prayer” (1 Timothy 4:5).
Prayer experiences the power of God, and the fast that pleases God has the power to untie the bonds of wickedness, untie the bonds of yokes, and set the oppressed free. Let's pray earnestly for our families, neighbors, and the church. Now is the time for all of us to pray for the church leaders and presidents of this land. Those who pray are victorious.
* Prayer: Holy Lord, thank you for giving us a praying President. We also want to become saints who always strive to pray and actively pray for our families, neighbors, and the country. Help me to win through prayer without ceasing. We pray in the name of our Savior Jesus. Amen
* Column: The President's Prayer
Just before the Civil War broke out, the White House cabinet members were seriously debating whether or not to start this war. A guest stayed at the White House that night, and it was deep and he could not sleep.
Woodrow Wilson was the 28th President of the United States. At one point during his tenure, he was having a lot of trouble with international negotiations, and he was convinced that prayer was the only way to solve this problem, and he spoke in a tragic voice at the Ministerial Meeting. “My ministers, I don’t know what you might think, but I believe in the power of prayer. Now we are facing great difficulties. Let's pray together and ask for help from God who rules the world.” And the president and ministers prayed earnestly to solve the international problem they were facing.
A tragic event in Zambia on April 29, 1993 engulfed the whole of Zambia. All of the national football teams lost their lives in a plane crash. The delegation was on a flight to Senegal to attend the preparatory match for the World Football Championship. The following is a prayer offered by Zambian President Chiluba at a funeral held as the head of state.
God of all who fear and fear. We came to the Lord this morning. No one can become a king on his own, nor can he be born a president, but we know that the Lord has the power to set up kings and to overthrow them. Only Your holy name is honored!
We submit to the Lord only by faith and reliance on the pilgrim's path. We come empty-handed and go empty-handed. You cannot take anything with you. these young people. Our brothers were no more sinners than us when they died. We also do not know when we will meet our end on this earth. But we do know one thing: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Father, we have lost the sons of this country. But the Lord will help us and guide us. We want peace. It is a peace that comes only to the Lord and is not the peace of the world, but a peace that transcends all our understanding. Oh! Our Lord, once again I entrust this people to you. In Golgotha, the Lord overcame Satan and triumphed. From that Golgotha, true peace has come to us. I want this peace for this country. Father, I entrust all the government cabinets to you. Let them know that they did not stand in such a place because they were wise and wise, but that you established them and that they want to accomplish your will through them.
We are just messengers, and you are the Lord and King of this country. Father, we entrust all of us to you. I also entrust everything to my father. The Lord has entrusted me with this position. There are many people who are better than me, and there are many who deserve to be in this position, but because you trusted me, you entrusted me with this position. Through this you have made me proclaim your name. Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord. (Prayer stopped for a moment because the president sobbed.)
Father, I promise in front of all these people and the nation. I will proclaim your name in the future, and I will exalt your name and make sure that no unclean things take its place. I know that this difficult path is not unique to today, but has been there at any time in the past. Even Job, whom his father loved, lost his ten children, his beasts, and everything he had in one day, but he relied on his father. We too depend on our Father in this moment of darkness. We now confess that Jesus is our Lord, God, and ruler of this kingdom. We will overcome all of this. we will overcome I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
Let's pray together so that there will be many people like the President who are humble and pray for our country and people in our country.
“O LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble; you prepare their hearts and give their ears to hear” (Psalm 10:17).
