Title: Proverbs 10: 6-21 Lessons on Words

Introduction

: It depicts the reality of a wise son and a foolish son from the perspective of “the life of the righteous and the life of the wicked”

A wise son brings joy to parents as he lives a righteous life, whereas a foolish son brings shame and anxiety to parents who live an unrighteous life.

If we summarize the characteristics of the life of the righteous and the life of the wicked,

① Things about poverty and wealth (2-5, 15-16)

② Things about horses (6-14, 18-21, 31-32).

③ Attitudes toward instruction (17).

④ It is about blessings (22~30).

We will only deal with the lessons about words.

Children may be the cause of the greatest joy for their parents, or they may be the cause of unbearable pain and despair.

In order not to suffer painfully because of your children, you should teach them to fear the Lord from an early age.

* The foundation of reverence for parents is reverence for their Creator, Jehovah God.

* When children are taught to fear God, they will naturally grow up to be good people who please their parents.

One). About the fruit of lips (6)

Words reveal a person's heart, thoughts, and plans. Therefore, whatever a man speaks, he reaps fruit according to it.

① The good and wise words and deeds of 'a righteous man' are not intentionally done in expectation of a reward, but righteous words and actions.

The act itself is a joy. Therefore, even in the midst of suffering, he does what is right. Blessings will come

② An 'evil man' pours out the evil in his heart through his lips.

* “to retain” (    kasha) is to cover. Even when it is not expressed in the meaning of concealment, it always shows that you have evil thoughts.

points to Therefore, what comes back to the wicked is the fruit of the evil cherished in them.

2). Reputation given to the wicked and the righteous.(7)

① 'The life of a righteous man' gives people great joy and benefits, so people praise him.

* You do righteousness in secret, without revealing it, but that righteousness cannot be hidden. They may be misunderstood and doubted for a while, but in the end their righteousness will testify to them. This will make people praise you.

② 'Life of the wicked' tries to show off themselves, but their names don't last long.

* “The name of the wicked shall be stone” means to decline and disappear.

* Even if a wicked person who wants to reveal himself does false good for that purpose, the lie will eventually be revealed and he will suffer even more shame.

3). It is an attitude expressed in listening and speaking (8-10).

A wise person pays attention to what he hears rather than what he speaks.

In the text, the righteous are compared with those who are willing to listen, and the wicked are compared with those who taunt.

A person who is humble in heart with a basic attitude can discern authority and obey.

* “Getting orders” is not blind obedience, but an expression of a will to do what is right.

* A person who distinguishes between corrupt authority and false authority and obeys what is to be followed is the one who walks in the right way. Therefore, even when temptation or persecution comes, such a person does not lose peace.

* “Peace” means safe. Those who walk in the right way according to the commandments of wisdom will be protected by God.

Because. On the other hand, a fool will never listen.

They use gestures instead of words as a means to devise and execute evil plans, but in the end they

The action is revealed and it is destroyed.

* “Defeat” means “to plunge.” It means “to be thrown out” and refers to sudden destruction.

4). the influence of words. (11-12)

A person's words can kill or save a person.

① 'The words of the righteous' give hope to those who are in despair, and guide those who do wrong to the right path.

* The righteous speak good and gentle words with love full of heart, and they benefit like a fountain of life.

② 'The words of the wicked' cause injustice, doubt, resentment, quarrels, etc., and ultimately harm life.

* A wicked man vomits out all the hateful words in his heart, and soon becomes poison and harms his life.

5). It is a personality that is revealed in relation to words.(13~14)

Because words reveal the person's character, the difference is clearly visible in the use of the lips.

* In addition to acquiring knowledge to “keep it”, it includes the quality of self-regulating by discerning when and where to speak, as well as an attitude of constantly paying attention to wisdom.

① A wise person possesses abundant wisdom to give to people, but he does not reveal it recklessly, and he uses appropriate words to benefit others from time to time.

② A person without wisdom inflicts punishment upon himself by revealing his folly through careless and unrestrained speech.

The text says, “There is a whip for the back.”

* The words of a fool are that it is a cause of anger because it reveals one's own faults.

6). Hiding hatred is the hallmark of fools (18-19)

They tell lies to hide the hate in their heart. Eating out (hypocritical attitude).

* Hidden hatred develops further and leads to accusation (slander).

① 'A foolish person' is arrogant. Talkative means you don't care about other people at all to reveal yourself.

It shows that he lacks self-control and self-discipline. Therefore, in the midst of speech

② A wise man is aware of the fact that he can speak in vain, and thus controls his lips.

* To “control” does not mean to be silent, but to know when to be silent and when to speak, and to control yourself.

7). In the end, fools lead the way of the wicked, and the wise lead the way of the righteous. (20-21)

This difference comes from the heart.

The heart of the righteous person is full of the treasures of wisdom, and his tongue naturally pours out useful words like silver.

* “Thousand silver” refers to pure silver that has undergone a refining process.

① The reason that 'the tongue of the righteous' has the same value as a thousand silver is because it comes from God.

② The reason 'the tongue of the wicked' is of little value is because his heart, which despises wisdom, has no wisdom.

From the tongue of the wicked there is nothing that men can take from it. Not only is it worthless and useless, it is also evil and causes its own death.
