Psalm 86
David's Prayer
Text Background:
Main contents of the text:
This poem is divided into four parts. First, hear my prayer (vv. 1-7). Second, praise God (verses 8-10). Third, pray with one mind and take an oath to give thanks to the Lord (vv. 11-13). Fourth, begging for deliverance from the enemy (verses 14-17)
Let us examine the poet's faith in God.
1. Titles: Jehovah (Jehovah), you are my God (Ata Elohai), Lord (Adonai), you are my Lord (Atta Adonai)
2. Praise of the Lord's character: You are good (Atta Adonai Saw-You are a good Lord), You love to forgive (Salah), You are generous (Rab Hesed-Abounds in mercy and mercy) , There is no one like you among the gods (Ein Kamoka Baelohim), You are vast (Gadol Ata), You work miracles and wonders (Ose Niplaot), You alone are God (Ata Elohim Levadeka), Lord The LORD is rich in mercy and mercy, slow to anger, abundant in love and truth (Adonai el Rahum Behanun Erek Afim Berab Hesed Behemet), the Lord helps and comforts me (Ata Adonai Azartani Benihamthani) .
3. David's faith.
First, pray all day. “All day long I cry out to you” (verse 3).
Second, rely on the Lord. “My Lord and God, save the servant who trusts in you” (verse 2).
Third, praise the Lord. “I will praise you with all my heart, O Lord my God; I will give glory to your name forever and ever” (verse 12).
4. Contents of prayer.
Answer me (verse 1), preserve my soul (verse 2), save the servant who trusts in you (verse 2), have mercy on me (verse 3), look up to you (verse 4) in prayer Give ear to me (verse 6), and turn to me, and give it to your servant, and save the son of your maidservant (verse 16), and show me the sign of your favor (verse 17).
David's childhood faith is also reflected in the confession he made while fighting Goliath. “The LORD delivered me from the claw of the lion and from the paw of the bear; he will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:37) “You come to thee with sword and spear and javelin, but I am the name of the LORD of hosts, you I come to you in the name of the God of the armies of Israel who reproach you” (1 Samuel 17:45) “And this multitude will know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear, for war belongs to the Lord, and He will deliver you into our hands. Siri” (1 Samuel 17:47)
It is truly amazing. How could David have this kind of faith in his father's indifference? The text gives us the answer to this. In the prayer that David confessed in the day of trouble, save the son of your maidservant, you learn that David's mother had passed on the faith to David. The Bible says that when David is recommended, he speaks. This means that the word of God remains on the lips. In other words, David heard the word of God from someone, learned it, memorized it, and put it into practice. Who is David's mentor? She is David's mother. She inherited Ruth's faith. He inherited Naomi's faith. He inherited the faith of Rahab, who was a prostitute, and he inherited the faith of Tamar, the daughter-in-law of Judah. Ruth was a good daughter-in-law. She never left her mother Naomi. It was because of faith. Because of her faith, Rahab also abandoned her people and faith and returned to the God of Israel to become the Lord's people. David's prayer delivers a precious message to us today. Ask if you have a mentor in your faith. We are also saying that we should be mentors of faith and pass it on to our descendants.
