Purpose-driven life (15) Born into the family of God
Text: Romans 12:5 In the same way we, who are many, are one body in Christ and members of one another.
When we believe in Christ, God becomes our Father, we become His children, other believers become our brothers and sisters, and the church becomes our spiritual family. God wants a family and made us to be a family. Anyone can become a member of God's family, but there is one condition and that is faith in Jesus. This spiritual family of ours is more important than a physical family because it will be together forever.
The moment we were born again spiritually and became part of God's family, we received a huge birthday present. A close relationship with God is, of course, an inheritance. “If you are a son, you are an heir through God” (Galatians 4:7, Philippians 4:19). On this earth we have found abundance, his grace, kindness, patience, glory, wisdom, strength, and mercy, and in the eternal kingdom we will receive more inheritance.
Baptism is the symbol of becoming a member of God's family (1 Corinthians 12:13). Therefore, baptism is an ordinance that we must perform immediately after becoming a member of God's family, not until we grow spiritually. There is only one condition, and that is to believe in God. Being part of God's family is the greatest honor and privilege. Nothing can compare to it. Whenever we feel unimportant, unloved, or insecure, remember who we belong to.
The Bible is made up of words that create a family of God to love, glorify, and rule together forever. The second purpose toward us is to make us part of God's family. The way to become a member of God's family is only possible when you are born again through faith in Jesus. By faith God becomes our Father and we become His children, all who believe are brothers and sisters, and the church becomes our spiritual family.
1. The Benefits of Being a Family of God
1) First, you will enjoy abundant grace on this earth.
○ You will gain the wisdom, strength, and mercy of God and enjoy true peace that the world cannot give.
(Philippians 4:19) My God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
2) You will receive more inheritance in the eternal kingdom.
○ You will be with God forever.
○ You will be completely transformed and become like Christ.
○ You will be freed from all pain, suffering and death.
○ You will receive praise and rewards and crowns.
○ We will share in the glory of Christ.
(1 Peter 1:4) to an inheritance that is incorruptible, undefiled, and does not fade, which is reserved for you in heaven.
Our eternal heritage means invaluable, pure, eternal, and protected from taking away.
2. A sign of becoming a true family of God (baptism)
1) Baptism is not a ceremony that can be chosen or postponed. "I'm proud to be part of God's family," he says. Therefore, it is an ordinance that should be performed immediately after becoming a family member, not postponed until spiritual growth.
○ On the day of Pentecost, 3,000 people received Christ and were baptized.
○ The Ethiopian eunuch was baptized there at the moment of his conversion.
○ Paul and Salah baptize the jailer and his family in the Philippian prison at midnight.
2) A healthy family has pride and pride as a family. Don't be afraid to announce that you are part of God's family.
(Romans 12:5) In the same way we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and members of one another.
3) To be baptized is to declare our faith.
4) It is a ceremony to inform the church and the world that the old life will die and a new life will come by sharing in Christ's death and resurrection.
Conclusion: Being part of God's family is our greatest honor and privilege. Nothing can compare to it. God is so proud of us because we are God's family and Jesus made us holy. If you ever feel unimportant, unloved, or insecure, remember whose family we are.
Day 15 / About the purpose of my life
Points to Ponder: I was born into the family of God.
Memorable Words: “He predestined us to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the will of my pleasure” (Ephesians 1:5).
Questions that leave life:
1. Write the names of your family members. Are they all on the spiritual family list?
2. How did you get the chance to be reborn? Are you wondering how you can create opportunities to lead others to Christ?
3. How can I treat other Christians like my own family?
“We became a family of men when we were first born into the world, but when we are born again, we become a family of God.” - from the text -
