A Purpose Driven Life (33) Guide to the Behavior of a Genuine Servant
Text: Mark/10:43-44 It is not so among you; whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be a servant of all.
God determines our greatness by how much we serve others, not how much others serve us. It is important to know who you are and serve God, but more important than that is to have a servant's heart. Our appearance shows our ministry, but the servant's heart shows how mature our faith is.
The world defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, fame, and status, but Jesus measures it by service, not status. It is more important to have a servant's heart than to serve God according to your own image. So even if we don't have any specific gift, if there is no one around us who has that gift, we should be able to serve as a servant for the work that meets the needs of the time.
During the Six-Day War, an Arab Allied officer ordered "Move forward" and an Israeli officer ordered "Follow me." How did Jesus Christ live? It's a life you've seen. That example is service. A true leader says, "Follow me." Great power is here. When Christ said, "I came to serve," he set the example and took up the cross, the pinnacle of service. This is the greatest path.
So what is a life of service? It is a life that humbles itself. As the Lord humbles us (Philippians 2:5-8), we must humble ourselves. He who humbles himself is one who has self-esteem. It is not a positional lowering, but a heart and practice of serving. It is the heart that considers others to be better than me. Giving is life. The Lord, who is God, came to this earth and gave Himself. The love of Christ is the love that gives and the love that gives life. This is service, and service is to save lives by giving love. Serving is building others up. Let's build others up with what God has given us. If you have dexterity, you use your hands. If you have the ability to speak, you build power. Those who have power by means of power, those who have money, those who have intelligence, and learning. A person who builds up others with what he has is a person who lives a life of service. Serving is a life in which we do not rule over what God has given us, but rather humble ourselves, give and build up. Like the Lord who came to serve, let us also mature as people who live a life of service.
1. A true servant gives up to serve himself.
A true servant is one who gives up his life so that God can work whenever he needs it, even if it is inconvenient. A true servant is one who is happy to have the opportunity to serve even the elements that stand in the way of his plans.
(Mark 10:43) It is not so among you; whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.
2. A true servant cares for the needs of others.
A sincere servant, when he sees the need of people, "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, but more to the household of faith" (Galatians 6:10). don't miss out.
John Wesley's motto - "Do every good thing I can. Do it by all means, by all means, in any place, at any time, with anyone, for as long as I can"
You can start by paying attention to the very little things that no one else wants to do. Do small things like great things. God is watching.
3. A true servant does his best with what he has.
A sincere servant does what he has to do without making excuses, procrastinating, or waiting for circumstances to improve. If you wait for the perfect situation, nothing can be done. You can't do something right the first time, you learn from mistakes and shortcomings. Rather than a seemingly perfect church run by a few elites, it should be a church with thousands of ordinary people.
4. A true servant has the same dedication in all things.
Jesus served all people with tasks that people were reluctant to do, such as washing feet, caring for children, preparing breakfast, caring for the leper. Before we try to do something special, we too should try to serve as something ordinary. When we need to serve upwards or downwards, we should do our best in an effort to meet the needs.
5. A true servant is faithful to their ministry.
A true servant is not someone who leaves halfway through, but someone you can trust and rely on, who fulfills your responsibilities and keeps your promises even if you feel discouraged. Since the servants are not faithful to the ministry, there are many cases where the volunteers at the church each week do not prepare, do not attend, or come without contact, so that they have to improvise.
6. The faithful servant maintains a low stance.
1) A faithful servant does not serve for the praise or approval of others. For boasting and the heart of a servant cannot be mixed together. (Galatians 1:10) If I had been seeking the joy of men until now, I would not have been a servant of Christ.
2) Like the Pharisees, Jesus was wary of 'service that pleases the eye' to help others, donate money, and even pray to others. (Mt 6:1) Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of people to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
Conclusion: Even if you are serving as an obscure figure that no one recognizes and receives no thanks, God sent you there for a purpose. Do not be discouraged and continue to serve God. Because He is the All-Knowing God of you, stay there until He decides to send you somewhere else. Even the smallest things, God knows and promises to reward them.
DAY 33 / About the purpose of my life
Points to Ponder: I serve God by serving others.
Memorable Words: And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, that person will by no means lose his reward.??(Matthew 10:42)
Questions that leave life:
1. Of the six aspects of a true servant, which one is the most challenging?
2. What kind of attitude do I need to avoid the temptation to do a ministry that will receive the approval and praise of others and always attract attention from many people?
?쏡o all the good I can do. Do it by all means, by all means, in any place, at any time, with anyone, for as long as I can.??John Wesley
