Title: Pursue your faith with your own will!
In the Bible, there are people who have succeeded in faith by believing in God and carrying out their will, but there are also records of people who did not believe in God and fell from the faith because their will was taken from them by the evil spirit within them. The paralytic in today's text was also one of those people who, after hearing the rumor that Jesus was the Son of God, could not move even one part of his body at will, but he did not give up until the end and succeeded in his faith by carrying out his will.
At that time, many Jews thought that Jesus was simply the son of a carpenter, but they did not want to believe that he was the Son of God. Although he showed the Jews many signs and miracles that only God could reveal, the Jews did not hesitate to call Jesus the son of a carpenter by referring to a villager of Nazareth, or Joseph's trivial occupation, rather than believing that Jesus was the Son of God. didn't Their hidden purpose is in the background that led them to call Jesus down like this. If they really acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, they will be obliged to listen to what Jesus is saying, and if that happens, they will all be sinners as Jesus said, so they intentionally close their eyes before Jesus. In short, they did not want to be sinners. This will be repeated today as it is.
Even in such a difficult reality, the things Jesus was doing quickly spread throughout Israel through rumors, and many sick people, tax collectors, and prostitutes who heard the rumors came to Jesus to solve their problems. At that time, the Jews were living under the law, so when they broke the law, they became lepers, blind, deaf, and even paralyzed. When Miriam slandered Moses for taking a Cushite woman, it can be seen that leprosy immediately developed. The reason God did this to them is that because all human beings are under sin, they do not know where they come from or where they are going. However, if they get sick or die for no reason, they die without realizing it. Therefore, God gives even his people the law so that when they break it, they become ill, or when they commit a serious sin, they lead to death. He made them aware of their sins. This is the main purpose of giving the Law to the people of Israel.
