Title: Put on a New Man
wear a new person
Ephesians 4:17-24
Occasionally, when you read the newspaper, you will find interesting articles.
1. What is the old man we need to put off?
See verse 22. There are two main things. The first is an old habit. The second is the lust of temptation.
1) The old man we need to get rid of is to put off our old habits.
The grandmother was also bewildered by the child's sudden question, and said, "Uhhh, that's it...the sound of clapping for a job well done." A child entering kindergarten had a party of jaerong with parents watching. After the banquet was over, this child who went up to the stage and bowed down loudly exclaimed, "All the kites and bastards who have come to this place...!! Let's all go crazy together!"
We need to get rid of the old habits that we need to get rid of. Thoughts create actions, actions become habits, and habits become life. People are governed by habits. Failing people have a habit of failing. A sick person has a habit of getting sick. Lazy people have lazy habits. They seem to think and live coldly and intelligently, but habits rule their lives. A healthy person has healthy habits. If we do not control our habits, our habits will dominate our lives. Time magazine published an article titled "Change your lifestyle to live a disease-free life to the age of 100." This is the conclusion reached by introducing the latest research results on the secret of longevity, the greatest hope of mankind. We have reached the final conclusion by synthesizing the research results of Boston University's Dr. Thomas Pulse, a world authority on longevity research. "If you change your habits, anyone can live a healthy life from 60 to at least 25 years," said Pulse, "but it takes effort and willpower." According to Time magazine, the factors that determine longevity are largely divided into genes and lifestyle.
In 1998, a team of Swedish researchers set out to determine what was more important. They came to the conclusion that the genetic influence was only 20-30% through identical twins who were separated at birth and raised in different environments. The remaining 70-80% were related to lifestyle habits such as diet, living environment, and stress. Saints who avoid alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine live an average of eight years longer than all Americans. It is said that the wrong diet and eating habits ruin the body of children. Bad lifestyle habits ruin your life.
Wonkwang University's Department of Health and Welfare Professor Jongin Kim's team surveyed and published the average life expectancy by occupational group for the last 10 years (2001~2010) The longest-lived people were religious at 82 years old. Athletes were 69 years old, celebrities 65 years old. There are many reasons, but habits are probably a big factor. According to a survey by the National Statistical Office, there are 1,000 people who are religious among the elderly over the age of 100, accounting for 67.7%. It's probably because you have healthy habits. If you do not control your habits, you will be trapped in the snare of addiction, and if you do not control alcohol, tobacco, drugs, videos, and the media, you will become addicted. This addicted habit ruins your body, mind, and life. People who succeed in everything are because they have habits that lead to success, Dr. Kwak Geum-ju says in his book "The Psychology of Habits". He says, "The greatest innovation is to fight and win the habit. If you can't control the habit, the habit controls you. Evolve your habit into a habit that beats it. The other person will remember you as your habit." What are the characteristics of old habits that ruin us?
① It is decaying. ②It is decaying. The condition is getting worse than the original condition. Corrupt and polluted, they are on the verge of destruction.
(2) What are the old habits that we should put off? (verse 17)
① It is to act with the vanity of the heart.
Here, heart means heart in English. I don't speak mind. The Bible refers to the heart and the whole soul of a person. It is used as a word to mean intelligence, emotion, conscience, will, and whole personality. In other words, the Gentile mind means the whole way of thinking about the life of the Gentiles, the attitude they have towards life, the way they live it. Gentiles act with the vanity of their hearts.
The word vanity means 'empty, reckless, totally empty, absolutely useless'. The etymological meaning is 'to fail to reach a goal, without a purpose, without a focus, without a sense of direction'. There is no ultimate goal in life. Like Solomon's confession, we seek vain and vain things. There is no heaven. There is no permanent mission. I don't know where I came from or where I'm going. say nothing. It is said to be reincarnated. It is said to end with material things. So it becomes a TV life, a life of drinking, eating, and wallowing. It's nonsense. It's a bubble. It looks attractive, but it disappears easily. Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, and Elise Presley, who had risen to the top of popularity without breaking out of that void, committed suicide. It is to live with absolute popularity like foam. Behind the skyrocketing popularity, they tried their best to stop the air holes leaking from here and there, but they couldn't stop the emptiness.
(2) Why do we act in the vanity of our hearts? (18)
① It is because the brilliance has darkened. (18)
"Intelligence" refers to the intellect of the understanding side. Mind is an umbrella term that encompasses reason, emotion, conscience, and whole personality, and refers to the intellect with the function of opposing emotion and emotion. It is the result of the fall (
2 Corinthians 4:4) The highest functions in man have been dulled. Among the consequences of the Fall, the most disastrous is upon the human heart. It is because their spiritual eyes are far away (Romans 1).
The German philosopher Goethe, who excelled in the wisdom of the world, said as he died, "A little more light." Wells said, "I don't know where I stand. I don't understand." Why? Because they have darkened their understanding. Because they were spiritually blind. No matter how smart you are, you cannot know about the spiritual world if you are blind in spirit (1 Corinthians 2:9-10; 2 Corinthians 4:6). I think it's a myth. When we talk about heaven, we understand fairy tales. accepted as literature. There is no emotion in hearing the words. It's just boring when it's over. It doesn't make any sense. There is no emotion.
② Why? See the second half of verse 18.
Because they have departed from the life of God. The word life has the word bios and zoe. Bios refers to the organic tissue used in biology, that is, life in plants, animals, and people. Joe is a biblical term that refers to the life of God as a principle within us. In other words, it refers to the life in God Himself, that is, the seed of life that God gives to those who believe in Jesus Christ. The tragedy of the man in sin, the non-Christian, is that he is outside the life of God. You cannot participate in the life of God. They neither know nor enjoy the life of God. John 1:7 says, “This is eternal life, that they may know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
It means that you are far away from this life. It means to live independently of the life of God.
