Title: Quantity of Faith
2010.10.17 Sunday morning service sermon
Romans 12:3-5 ‘3. By the grace given to me, I say to each of you, do not think exceedingly as you ought to think, but think wisely according to the measure of faith that God has imparted to you.
4. Although we have many members in one body, not all members have the same function. 5. In the same way, we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and members of one another.”
- Amen.
There is no difference for anyone who believes in Jesus as their Savior and receives eternal life. Just as there can be no saying that a brother born of one parent is a noble child or a lowly child, the only way to become the same saint is to believe in Jesus as the Redeemer.
Then, you must realize that your faith can be different and that you are given different abilities to serve so that you will not be misunderstood among believers. I would like to share the word with the title of <the measure of faith> in verse 3.
1. Faith and Gifts are the Gifts of God
The most important thing is to realize that everything is by the grace of God. Because this does not work, complaints arise, gratitude decreases, and I always say to rejoice, but I am always concerned.
Text Romans 12:3 ‘… according to the measure of faith that God has given to each person…’
Ephesians 2:8 “By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
Romans 11:36 “For all things come from the Lord, and through the Lord and to the Lord, to him be glory forever and ever, Amen.”
2. Have a sense of community
When you become a Christian, you get a very happy heart, unlike when you are a non-believer, and the greatest joy among them is that a sense of unity like a family comes from deep within your soul. With this experience as the motive, it is always to rejoice in meeting with the saints, to worship together and to exercise the spirituality to be moved by meeting.
The Bible teaches many times that we, as members, are one body, with the Lord Jesus as our head and all our members as hands and feet to achieve one will.
This is not a coercion for ideological gathering, but a wonderful new spiritual fellowship and a blessed group consciousness conscious of the unity of the body of the Lord, the church.
Text, Romans 12:5 “In the same way, we who are many are one body in Christ, and members of one another.”
1 Corinthians 12:12 “As the body is one and has many members, and as the body has many members and is one body, so is Christ.”
3. Work according to the function and measure of your faith
Because each person has different innate temperaments and different social influences, the work, level, and capabilities are different. The Lord wants all the saints to be faithful according to the gifts he has given them.
Matthew 25:15 "...to each one according to his talent, five talents of gold, to the other two talents, and to the other one talent..."
Because many of the talents come from the Lord, He does not judge them based on what they have. I'm just asking how you used it.
As in verse 4 of the text, not all members have the same function, we believers all have different degrees of faith and different functions.
In the text of Romans 12:3, it is said, "...think wisely according to the measure of faith that God has given to each one"
Mettron, the measure of faith, means limited quantity, which refers to the characteristic of function. Therefore, living a good life of faith will shine in Christ when you use your talents in the best and cooperative way.
The word swfronevw, which means to think wisely according to the limits of faith, also means to express one's abilities in a sound and humble manner.
In John 3:34, Jesus received the Holy Spirit without measure, but the measure of faith we have received is not without measure, but since each of us has received it appropriately, we cannot do everything. So, you must be humble and loyal according to your level of faith. Otherwise, you will become arrogant, turn your beliefs into lies, become so-called pseudo-cults, heretics, and liars, unavoidable of punishment.
Everything He has given us belongs to God.
Also, faith is grace and gifts are grace. The fact is that God is pleased and grace is given to each of us if we are faithful as we receive grace. I pray that you will be faithful witnesses by examining yourself according to the measure of faith.
