Title: Realize What You Believe
2011.2.20 Sunday morning worship service
Bible: John 6:68-69
Title: Realize What You Believe
John 6:68-69 ‘68. Simon Peter answered, “Lord, you have the word of eternal life; to whom shall we go?” 69. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.
In this chapter, after the incident of feeding the first 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish, when about 2-3 thousand people came to the Lord, the Lord gave a long sermon about the bread of eternal life to the numerous people who came. The people who came to make him the so-called economic president heard the sermon on the subject of ‘Eat my flesh and drink my blood to gain eternal life’, but it was different from the purpose of their visit, so it was a burden to human ears.
John 6:60 This chapter said, '.. These words are difficult; who can hear them...' and he left. At this time, when the Lord asks the disciples if you will also leave, Peter, who always comes forward and confesses well, answered with a strong tone this time as well.
Mark 8:17 ‘…do you still do not understand and do not understand? Are your hearts heavy?’, Mark 7:14 ‘.. All of you, listen to my words and understand.’
It is a superstition to think that there is salvation if you just go to church without realizing it even if you hear it or seeing it without knowing it. So today, I would like to share a sermon titled <Recognize what you believe>.
1. You must understand the words of Jesus as the words of eternal life
People do not change because they know and listen to the Bible as the scriptures of general religion or ordinary books. If there is life, it bears fruit or grows, but the reason why things do not change and do not develop after hearing the Word of the Bible is because we do not fully understand the Word of God.
Text, John 6:68 “Simon Peter answered, Lord, you have the word of eternal life; to whom shall we go?”
Hearing the words of Jesus with the same ears, how did the disciple understand it while so many people did not understand it? It is because the intention of hearing the word is different. Those who tasted the miracle of 5 bottles and 2 fish came for the bread of the flesh, but the disciples are people who leave their homes and go to the apostles, so they already have a different attitude toward Jesus.
So, if you earnestly listen to the sermon and say you want to gain life, you will hear the word of God spiritually and vividly.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 “This… when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you did not receive it as the word of men, but as the word of God, truly it is, and this word also works in you who believe.”
It is the same with the attitude of taking classes at school, the attitude of children taking lessons, or the attitude of children listening to their parents. If you look at the attitude you are already listening to, you can see what is going to happen.
Acts 17:11-12, The people of Berea were gentlemen, so they said that they gained faith by listening to the sermon and checking the Bible for themselves. What made the disciples different? When the Lord spoke deeply about life, it was different that we listened intently, accepted it with our hearts, and obeyed.
2. You must realize Jesus as the Holy One (Saint)
The word holy in the Bible means one who has been consecrated and sent by God (Ps. Peter's confession here means God the Son (Mark 1:24, Luke 4:34).
Text John 6:69 “We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”
If you get it right, you will believe it. If you do anything long or private, you are not confident. The disciples firmly believed and realized that Jesus was the Son of God.
Because you have to believe, I believe unconditionally. Just shouting Amen does not mean you will be saved. Faith always goes hand in hand with enlightenment.
Ephesians 4:13 It is said, “.. become one in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, and make a perfect man...”
John 17:3 “This is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
Knowing Jesus rightly is directly related to gaining eternal life.
Thousands of people followed Jesus, and the world was filled with people every day. Politicians were worried because a teacher from a village in Nazareth suddenly had a meeting with a large number of people.
Then the Lord asked the disciples.
Matthew 16:13-16 ‘13. ...who do people say that the Son of Man is? 14. Some say, John the Baptist, others Elijah, others say, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. 15. He said, Who do you say I am? 16. Simon Peter answered and said, The Lord is the Christ You are the Son of the living God.”
If you have the right knowledge of who Jesus is, you will live your life differently. No, life is about to change. If we understand Jesus properly, we will come to know ourselves properly and change our outlook on life.
From this point on, all of life begins with Jesus because we have realized that everything in life is totally in the Lord Jesus.
Among the blessings of life, the most precious blessing is not money and fame, but understanding and knowing the words of Jesus and Jesus Himself. So, Matthew 13:16 ‘…Blessed are your eyes for seeing and your ears for hearing’.
I pray that the truth of the Lord will become the words of life that live and work every day, that you and I will look at the majesty of the Lord Jesus Christ spiritually, and that our faces also resemble Jesus and illuminate the world.
