Vashti's rebellion against the king's name (1:10-12)
The feast, which should have been continued as a festival, suddenly turns into a harsh atmosphere in the text.
The cause is because of the disobedience of Queen Vashti's royal name. In the lead role, King Ahasuero showed off the beauty of the queen and called Vashti, but she refused.
1. The king's command (verse 10)
① The scarlet of the seventh day
The seven-day feast, which was held after the 180-day feast, has the character of pure entertainment in which the people participated.
The appearance of the king enjoying a feast with the people symbolically shows the political and economic prosperity of the country.
The depiction of the kingdom of God that will come with the second coming of Jesus as a feast for the king and the people is also a symbolic expression of the joy of heaven.
② King's request
* When the king got drunk and excited, he ordered the seven eunuchs (Mehuman, Abakda, Bishda, Harbona, Bikda, Sedal, and Gargashi) to ask for a queen.
* Considering the custom of the time when the seven eunuchs signed the perfection of the number, it can be inferred that, along with a respectful request to the queen, it is implied that their request must be obeyed.
2. The queen of beautiful appearance (verse 11)
* The king wanted to show off his wife's beauty to all the people. Or, the king wanted to give joy to the hearts of the people because of the beautiful queen.
I wanted to maximize the atmosphere of the feast, heightened by the entertainment, with the appearance of the queen.
* There are various opinions as to why Vashti refused to come out because of the king's command. a. He had flaws in his appearance. b. He tried to show the queen naked to the people.
* There is a theory in Persian custom that a woman cannot appear in the place where the scarlet turns. This was to cut down the body of the queen, but the king was drunk and showed this disrespect to his wife.
3. The king's rebellion and the king's wrath (verse 12)
* The Bible did not say that Vashti refused the king's command and did not appear at the banquet.
* The king was also responsible for the queen's disobedience, but the king takes care of others to punish the queen.
* This can discover the sovereign historicity of God before the legality.
