Title: Rebellious Faith/Genesis 15:1-6
Content It is already the 7th time that we have looked at Abraham from the perspective of faith. During that time, Abraham showed steady growth despite the many ups and downs. In doing so, we had no choice but to examine our beliefs relatively. There will be some of us who still miss Egypt, and there will be others who, like Lot, openly say that Sodom is better. Solomon, in his proverbs, rebukes his careless tongue, saying that it is difficult to avoid transgression when there is a lot of talk. To say and think so irresponsibly just because the image of God cannot be seen and faith cannot be touched is a very dangerous attitude to live.
I am going to look at the entire text in the form of verse 1 - God appearing to Abram, verses 2 and 3 Abram's protest, verses 4 and 5 God's answer, and verse 6 the conclusion.
How are you guys? Aren't you comforting me? Doesn't it seem that the Lord's comfort is heard when we are so depressed and struggling? The Lord is always with us. However, there is a problem that Abraham in the text was not like that. They make a volmen sound as if they have been waiting for a long time. "No, God! What are you going to give me? I'll give you the child you promised to give me as soon as possible. It's been 10 years since I've been there, so why are you saying nothing but not giving me a child? And if you don't give me a child again, Even the servants raised in my house should become sons.
God continues to appease Abram with his long-suffering and merciful appearance. He says, "Eliezer is not your heir that I promised you. Why can't you keep believing and waiting? Your heir must come from your own body." Then he took him outside and taught the stars, saying, "Look, your descendants will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. Believe and wait." God promised Abram three things from the beginning. It is a blessing from the land, the descendants, and God. We call this promise of God {covenant or covenant}.
. We will look at this topic next week. In any case, we see Abram calmed down by God's comfort.
As we encounter a series of events surrounding Abram, we come to the conclusion that it is not easy to live a faith life. This is because the appearance of Abram, who rushes to God as if arguing before God, is not an image of good faith. So should we not make the same mistakes that Abram did? Thomas confessed that he believed in Jesus only when he touched the wound of Jesus. But we should not make the same mistake because we know the trial and error of such Thomas. We must have faith that grows little by little by leaning on the shoulders of many forefathers of faith who have preceded us. I hope that you will be able to deal with Abram's agony and overcome the difficulties that are currently approaching you. ( * )
