Title: Receive the Lord in Holiness
Text/ 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13
The word holy means “set apart”.
What is it to be distinguished from? Needless to say, it is a distinction from the world.
The world has many things and always tempts us.
You can have lust for fame, lust for power, lust for material things, lust for success, but Christians must lead a separate life.
We must not forget that Christ's people live in the world, but they are sent as God's envoys.
1, Why must the person of Christ be holy?
1) Because holiness is the will of God.
(1 Thessalonians 4:3) “This is the will of God, your holiness.”
(1 Thessalonians 4:7) “For God hath not called us to unclean, but to sanctify.”
2) Because holiness is a command from God.
(1 Peter 1:16) “It is written, I am holy, so be ye holy” (Leviticus 11:44).
3) Because if you are not holy, you cannot see the Lord.
(Hebrews 1214) “Pursue peace with all men and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.”
2, Who makes me holy?
1) God -
(Leviticus 20:8) "I am the LORD who sanctifies you"
Nothing in the world can make us holy.
Only Jehovah God, who exists, can do this.
2) Jesus -
(Hebrews 10:10) “We have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
(Hebrews 13:12) “To sanctify the people with his own blood.
The sacrifice of Jesus Christ washes away our iniquities and sanctifies them with blood.
3) Holy Spirit -
(2 Thessalonians 2:13) “Give thanks to God, for God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Holy Spirit and faith in the truth.”
4) Word and prayer-
(1 Timothy 4:5) “It is sanctified by the word of God and prayer” (Ephesians 5:26)
3, why? Do we need holiness and prayer?
1) To perfect the lack of faith
Verse 10: “I pray fervently day and night, that when I see your face, I may complete the lack of your faith.”
Paul wanted to go to Thessalonica to see the saints, but Satan blocked the way and he could not go. He started a life of faith, but he had no choice but to pray that he would continue to grow because he was in an imperfect state like a child.
2) To be preserved without blemish until the Second Coming of the Lord
(1 Thessalonians 5:23) “May the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ”
The dead are resurrected first, and the living receive the Lord in the air. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
3) The attitude of our faith life until the Lord comes
(1 Thessalonians 5:12-24) Rejoice always - Pray without ceasing - Give thanks in everything -
God wants a life of continuous prayer.
But when I have a problem, I constantly pray.
So the problem makes me pray.
You must become a holy child of God through the Word and prayer, so that you can see the Lord in a holy place.
Hymn 233 - There are no sinners there, only the holy ones.
- The Lord will surely come.- Amen
