Title: Repentance for Dead Works
(30) Repentance for dead works
(Heb 6:1-3)
The author of the book of Hebrews, who felt sorry for the weak members of the Hebrew church who still need to be taught by whom even Christians who have to eat solid food because it has been a long time since they have accepted Christ, urge them to move away from elementary doctrines and move on to perfection. that is recommended.
Then, the text tells a few things about the elementary doctrines that tell us not to build a foundation again. Through the lessons of repentance of dead works, faith in God, baptism, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment, the saints must learn and strengthen these doctrinal knowledge well so that they can eat solid food in the place of a nursing child. It gets you to where you are. But they were often swayed by this kind of teaching, unfruitful.
1. Repentance of Dead Works
If we cling to the basic morality and stay in the place of only breastfeeding forever, there is no growth in faith. Then, let's find out what we are saying about the basic principle of the Christian way, which is easy to cling to.
By this repentance we are united to Christ, dead to sin and alive to righteousness. Without this saving repentance we cannot become Christians. Without this repentance, any repentance we do in our lives or in our lives cannot show the value of repentance. Through this repentance, the original sin of death that descended into Adam is wiped out, and all our sins are forgiven, and all the sins of our lives are forgiven. Paul says in Romans 6:2-7 that we are baptized into Christ into death, so that we also died with him.
2. Repentance in Christ
Next, we are faced with the problem of how to deal with the sins committed after we have come into Christ. Even Christians in this world are living in the flesh, so the flesh can be tempted to sin and commit sins. Then, how should we deal with such sins? This sin must be dealt with through a life of repentance in Christ. However, this repentance is fundamentally different from that of receiving Christ. This repentance is not repentance for new life. This repentance is the repentance of the dead deeds in the life of those who have been given new life.
The sins that Christians commit are not condemnable sins. This kind of Christian sin is not a condemnation for unbelievers, but a sin that must be dealt with as a child of God in Christ. Repentance for disobedience to God's Word. If Christians do not have this repentance, they are going against God's will of salvation because they lead an unsanctified life with the world. The purpose of God's salvation for us is so that we can bear new fruit toward God. However, if Christians disobey God's will, they cannot accomplish God's will.
That's where God's hand of discipline comes from. That is why Christians must kill the sinful nature of people who are already dead in the flesh. This kind of Christian life is a life that kills the flesh with the Spirit. However, we do not know how many times we live in the midst of our dead deeds, not completely killing them. We must take responsibility for our sins in Christ and repent to God. The members of the Hebrew Church were not thorough in this kind of repentance, so they had been living a religious life for a long time, but they always stayed in the foolish place of feeding only milk like children.
Conclusion: Our faith must grow. In order to achieve normal growth, we must be thorough in repentance for our dead works. And you should always adorn yourself with the deeds of a new person.
