Title: Requirements of a Successful Leader

Exodus (47) Requirements for a successful leader

(Exodus 18:13-27)

< Seek the wisdom of God >

The day after Moses was reunited with his family, Moses sat down to judge the people, and the people stood by Moses from morning to evening (verse 13). At that time, the number of Israelites was about 2 million, so how many lawsuits must have been filed? To resolve such conflicts, a differentiated administrative and judicial organization was needed, but without such a system, how inefficient and difficult would it be for Moses to handle all matters directly?

At that time, if there was a lawsuit between the people, Jethro told him to report the matter to God and ask for wisdom (verse 19). Believers should seek God's wisdom in their daily life as well. It is holiness when we have God as our Lord in our daily work. There is a limit to human experience and knowledge, so we need to seek God's wisdom from time to time. Then, as God intervenes in our daily life, our encounter with God deepens and our experience deepens.

Jethro also exhorted Moses, “Teach the people statutes and ordinances, showing them the way they should go and what they should do” (verse 20). It means not to cling too much to trivial things, but to live as a spiritual subject by living according to the Word. A spiritual object overflows with resentment and complaints, but a spiritual subject overflows with gratitude and peace. If you live as a spiritual subject, you do not give in to hardships and trials, you learn a lot through the process and prepare for tomorrow's blessings.

What is the worst attitude of a beggar? Thinking that there is no hope and living as a spiritual object. A beggar is not a person without money. There are many people who live as spiritual subjects even without money. A lack of presence is a bigger problem than a lack of material. Having a presence is more important than having material things, and knowing the meaning of life is more important than knowing the means of life.

Why is a woman weak but her mother strong, and a man weak but her father strong? It is because they know that there is only one person on earth who will love their children with the love of agape and raise them with the love of agape. In other words, the 'meaning of life' makes the 'content of life' stronger. After all, ‘the meaning of life’ is the most precious content of hope.

< Requirements for a successful leader >

And Jethro chose from among the people those who were capable and fearful of God and who were sincere and hating unrighteous gain, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. did (verses 21-22). This exhortation illustrates the importance of ‘trusting and delegating’ when leading a community. In fact, one of the most necessary virtues for a leader is the 'art of delegation'.

Research on the leadership of fort Genghis Khan is active. Genghis Khan had four things that made him a successful leader. First, there was a vision. Genghis Khan believed that only by securing economic power through conquest could prevent chronic kinship conflicts over the meager crops of the steppes. So I had a vision of building a vast empire targeting Eurasia.

Second, we maximized our capabilities. Genghis Khan's army did not achieve a great empire with advanced weapons. Rather, he used his abilities to the fullest and appropriate. In other words, we maximized our military capabilities through strict military discipline, a thorough compensation system, and efficient military and administrative organization such as the Cheonho system.

Third, it gave me hope. Realizing that his men's greatest hope is to escape from chronic poverty, Genghis Khan established a profit-sharing system that thoroughly shares the spoils with his men. So, his subordinates knew that if they succeeded in conquering, they would surely be rewarded, so they fought the war of conquest with zeal.

Fourth, I knew how to delegate. A great man like Genghis Khan might be stingy in delegating authority, but in reality he was good at delegating authority. He was chosen as a commander, regardless of status, and gave him full trust and authority when he displayed his abilities on the battlefield. If you look closely, people with good faith are also good at delegating. Moses' outstanding leadership also came from his character of good delegation. With such trust and delegation, prepare for the blessing of the leader.
