"New name"

Bible Text: Revelation 2:17

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

I will give him the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone.

It's a good morning with the scent of spring

I hope you start your day full of vitality today

Listeners to this broadcast, what are you doing right now?

Kwon Chang-soo Kim, whom I love, listens to this broadcast while going to the agricultural wholesale market where fruits are auctioned off. I pray that the grace and peace of the Lord will be with you in your life and work place. Also, I pray that holy grace and warm comfort be with all of the Lord's children who listen to this broadcast.

Today I would like to talk about a "new name".

First, let's read the Bible verse Revelation 2:17

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

I will give him the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone.

There is a new name written on it, which shall be known except to the one who receives it.

there is no ram

There are many anecdotes related to names in the Bible.

The first thing that comes to mind is the name change. Abram became Abraham (Genesis 17:5), Jacob became Israel (Gen 32:28), Simon became Cephas or Peter (John 1:42), and Saul became Paul (Acts 13:9). Each name change was accompanied by good intentions and blessings. Abraham made an eternal covenant with God, which means father of nations. Israel is the name obtained in response to the prayer of the Yabbok River ferry, meaning that we have overcome together with God and man. Cephas or Peter means Rock, and was obtained after becoming a disciple of the Lord, and Paul was called from the turning point after Saul met the Resurrection Lord. Abraham is the name of the covenant, Israel is the name of the answer, Peter is the name of the disciple, and Paul is the name of conversion.

And some people have become famous by nicknames instead of names. Such is the case with Theophilus and Lydia. Theophilus means one who loves God (Acts 1:1). Lydia means from the city of Lydia in Thyadira Province, Turkey. Lydia's real names are Syntyche and Euodia (Philippians 4:3). James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, were nicknamed the sons of thunder (Mark 3:17).

On the other hand, there are names obtained through character or ministry. Hannah is recorded as a woman praying. In Romans 16, Paul introduces many brothers and sisters, giving them unique names. Phoebe is called the protector, Prisca and Aquila and Urbano and Stagu are called co-workers, Ebanedus is called the firstfruits, Andronicus and Junia are called those who are in Christ. Onesimus, who was a prisoner but was converted after receiving evangelism, was the son of a prisoner. He used to be a useless man, but now he is a useful man and an apostle's servant. (Mon 1:8)

Some people even called it using modifiers. Mary was called Mary who labored a lot, Abelle was called Abelle who was approved in Christ, Drubana and Drubosa were called those who worked hard in the Lord, and Percy was called Beloved Percy. The Philippians called them longing brethren or loving brethren, the joy and crown. Archippus was called Archippus, a soldier with us (Phm 1:2).

Among the names are new names given to distinguished guests. Revelation 2:17 is a message from the Lord to the Church of Pergamum. Jesus said that he who overcomes will be given a new name. This new name was said to be written on a white stone. Writing your name on a white stone was a method used in Greek culture at that time to specially host a distinguished guest. He gives new names to those who overcame Satan's temptations and kept their faith, and to those who endured all trials and never gave up on life.

Conversely, there are also bad names. Cain is called the pronoun of a murderer, and Judas Iscariot is called the name of betrayal. The magician Simon is called by the name of the sex trade. Nicolas is the name of a fallen heresy, and Humaneo and Alexander are those who have abandoned their consciences and handed over to Satan.

Listeners!

Although it is a short time this morning, listen to the Word and look around yourself. What kind of name you are called ... Your parents give you your real name, but you make your own nickname based on your character and deeds. So I'm not responsible for my real name, but I'm responsible for my nickname. Rather, his real name is just a formal title, but a nickname is also a 'descriptive word' that reveals his essence. As you quietly meditate on the Word, think about whether there is a beautiful name among the nicknames that describes you better than your real name. Change your attitude in life so you can have a good name

Also, I hope that you will receive a new name from the Lord when you keep your faith and overcome the temptations of Satan. In order for us to be resurrected with Jesus Christ and reach the throne of God, we must have a new name. May you receive the name that you have lived by faith, the name you have gained through prayer, the name that has overcome trials and triumphs, and so the new name that the Lord has given you.

I pray that you will win today, relying on the words you meditated on to obtain a wonderful nickname, a holy new name.
