"Revelation and the End"
Revelation 1:7-8
Only the Bible has the truth that it is powerfully proclaiming toward human history. It is a revelation of the end times. Just as death is inevitable for an individual, it is a declaration of truth that there is a cosmic end for mankind and the world. In particular, the book of Revelation is the inspiration of the Bible that records the truth of this end time. It is a cosmic event that will occur with the Second Coming of Jesus.
At the beginning of Revelation 1:7, it says, “Behold.”
These words urge readers to awaken in the face of the inevitability of the apocalypse that will occur with the second coming of Jesus.
I. It's a doomsday notice.
1. The Second Coming of Jesus will be in public glory.
It is a big event in the public domain.
1) It is said that he will come on clouds.
Revelation 1:7 says, “He will come with clouds”. Daniel also prophesied in his inspiration that Christ would come in the clouds (Daniel 7:13). It signifies the heavenly glory of Christ's Second Coming.
2) He said that He would come in glory.
Matthew 16:27 says, “The Son of Man will come in the glory of the Father with his angels, and at that time he will repay each one according to what he has done.” Matthew 24:30 says, “You will see the Son of Man coming on clouds with power and great glory.”
3) He said that He would come regardless of sin.
Hebrews 9:28 says, “He will appear a second time, free of sin, to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” This means that He did not come as the Lord of suffering on the cross for atonement.
4) It is said that He will come from the midst of fire.
In 2 Thessalonians 1:7 it says, “It is the justice of God to repay you with rest with us in affliction when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven with his mighty angels in flames.”
Isaiah 66:15 says, “Behold, the Lord is coming down, surrounded by fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind; he will wrath with great might, and rebuke him with raging flames.” This means that the second coming of the Lord will be majestic, just, and powerful.
5) It is said that he will come with the sound of an angel's trumpet.
1 Thessalonians 4:16 says, “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first.”
Matthew 24:31 says, “He will send his angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”
This trumpet will be the sound that awakens the dead to the resurrection. It will also be the sound of glorifying the surviving saints. In this way, in the second coming of Jesus, the clouds of heaven will become his monks, the heavenly angels will be his escorts, the archangels will be his messengers, and the heavenly saints will be his glorious attendants (1 Thessalonians 3:13, 2 Thessalonians 1:10).
2. It is said that the form of the second coming of Jesus is visible.
Revelation 1:7 says, “Every eye will see him.” “Those who pierced him will see,” he said. In Acts 1:11 it says, “He will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” Zechariah 12:10 says, “They looked upon him whom he had pierced.”
In this way, the second coming of Jesus will become a historical event in the universal knowledge. This was the case with Jesus' birth, his life, his death on the cross, his resurrection on the third day, and his ascension into heaven. It is said that all mankind after the fund will witness this event. The reason is that Jesus is the Savior of mankind and also the Judge of mankind.
II. The end and the woes of mankind
In Revelation 1:7 it says, “All the peoples of the earth will mourn over him, so be it, Amen.”
Zechariah 12:10 says, “I will pour out grace and a spirit of supplication on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem; they will look upon him whom he has pierced, and mourn for him as they mourn for their only son, and weep for him, weeping for the firstborn. I will do it as I do.”
Revelation 18:17-19 says, "Every captain, and the sailors who went from every place, and the sailors and those who worked on the sea stood afar off, and when they saw the smoke of the fire, they cried out, "Where is a city like this great city? He sprinkled it on his head and cried out in weeping and mourning, saying, “Woe to you, woe to you!”
Why are you so bitter?
1. It is because they did not repent and rejected the gospel until the end of time (Matthew 25:11-14).
2. Because now you will face a terrible judgment.
Matthew 8:12 says, “The children of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
3. Because the place where they will be judged is Hell.
By referring to that hell, the place where “the furnace” continues (Matthew 13:42, 50), “the lake of burning brimstone” (Revelation 19:20), that is, the “lake of fire” (Revelation 20:14-15), and the “outside darkness” (Matthew 8:12).
4. Because the period of that judgment is forever and ever.
In Mark 9:43, it is called “Hell’s unquenchable fire.” Revelation 14:10-11 says, “I will suffer with fire and brimstone, and the smoke of those afflictions will rise for ever and ever.” Mark 9:48 says, “The worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.” Revelation 21:8 says, “The cowardly and the unbeliever and the abominable and the murderers and the fornicators and the sorcerers and the idolaters and all the liars will have their part in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. It is” he said. In Matthew 25:46, it is called “eternal punishment.” In Matthew 25:41, "And he said to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels'.
For this reason, mankind of unbelief standing before the Second Coming of Jesus has no choice but to cry of eternal sorrow.
Ⅲ. It is the certainty of the end.
In the second half of Revelation 1:7, “… It will be so, Amen.” This is a solemn expression of affirmation of the facts.
This is the Alpha and Omega, the first and last, the self-affirmation of God Himself. Revelation 1:8 says, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, saith the Lord God, who is, and was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
He is said to be the living God, the sovereign God of human history.
Saints!
The truth of the end is the undeniable declaration of God Himself. It is a necessary declaration. I pray that you will become blessed ones who hear, believe, prepare, and preach the voice of the truth of the end that the Holy Spirit is saying to the churches.
