Title: Rich fool (Luke 12:16-21)
In the text, in Jesus' parable, a rich man reaped a lot of produce from the field and thought in his heart, 'Where are you going to pile up all this grain? Since there is no place to store it, let's tear down the barns, build a bigger one, and store lots of things and grain there. And the soul said to rest, eat and drink.
This rich man thought he was living a successful life in his own way. He was a smart person in his own way as a saver who had farming skills, knew how to plan for a great life for tomorrow, a lot of harvest, hard work, integrity, and self-reliance. But he was a fool in the sight of God. So Jesus said, "You fool!"
Why did you say you're stupid?
1. His outlook on life was foolish.
He was a selfish man who only knew himself that his view of life was foolish. The word “I am” appears six times in the text. This man did not know that he had farmed by the grace of God. He never said he was grateful for the grace of God, who gave him sunlight, air, and rain from time to time. And they did not know how to care for the poor in their neighborhood. This rich man was worried that he would have to tear down the barns and build a new one because of his abundance, but he never gave thanks to God or worried about his poor neighbor.
2. The value of wealth was foolish.
He was aiming for wealth to eat, drink, and enjoy himself. A person is not to eat, drink and enjoy his wealth, but to use his wealth well and use it for good.
As <Rockefeller Carne> said, property is ‘a steward of God’s things. If you do not use your property well, you will get angry about it.
3. The rich man's worldview was foolish.
The rich man was a secularist and never thought of the afterlife. Especially (1) he did not know about his own death (Hebrews 9:27).
(2) They did not know about their sins.
(3) I never thought of the afterlife after death.
Therefore, he was a fool.
Conclusion The rich fool will be judged because they have lived without God.
