Title: Righteousness by Faith (Romans 01:1-17)
Contents Romans is a letter Paul wrote in Corinth in AD 58. This letter was delivered to the believers in Rome by Phoebe, a member of the Cenchrean church near Corinth.
Paul had planned to go to Rome and preach the gospel as a free man and God's chosen apostle, but he unexpectedly made a trip to Rome as a prisoner.
The book of Romans is a Christian doctrinal document that systematically reveals the doctrine of righteousness.
Verse 1 says, “I, Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, was called as an apostle and set apart to preach the gospel of God.” These words are not speaking about Paul, but Paul himself, who was the most villainous among the oppressed among the monsters, is talking about his mission and the office of the chosen apostle. He was indeed a great figure in the turbulent Christian history.
Paul is giving words of encouragement to the saints in Rome in a letter, and also wants to run to Rome soon to meet the saints. The purpose of Paul's going to Rome was to impart to them a spiritual gift, that they might strengthen their faith. At that time, Rome was the center of the world's stagnation, economy, and culture, and was the best place for worshiping idols. Paul must have tried to instill strong faith in the people of this big city and to establish Paul's large church. However, Paul was arrested as a prisoner and subjected to severe interrogation. would have gone to
Verse 14 says, “I am indebted to the Greeks and to the savages, to the wise and to the foolish.” This means that he has a responsibility to preach the gospel to everyone under the world. And it also means that you are loved by everyone.
The 'righteousness of God' in verse 17 refers to the right relationship between God and human beings after the fall and separation from God. In other words, it means that humans who have no choice but to die are qualified to become children of God. It is the doctrine that this great event is possible through faith in Jesus.
