Title: Rise and Shine
20030101 New Year's Worship
1. First of all, I hope that the new year will be a year of rising (1).
The people of Israel in the Bible today were in a very dire situation. Just like Korea is now, the country was divided into North and South. It did not end with the tragedy of division, but lost the war against the remaining Babylon. Northern Israel became a vassal state of Assyria. In the south of Judah, kings, nobles, and promising young men were taken captive by Babylon. The future of the nation is bleak. There was no hope. It was a desperate situation.
The nation was divided into pro-Babylonian and pro-Egyptian factions and suffered from captivity. There is a water polo group and a flowering group. It is a situation in which it is impossible to stand up on human strength.
At this time, God speaks to the prophet Isaiah. He is telling him to stand up no matter how bleak the future of the nation is, no end in sight, and no despair. See verse 1. The first thing you say is to get up. It is not the language of the mind. It is the language of obedience. not a thought. Action. All you have to do is trust God completely and stand up by relying on the Word. No matter how dark, invisible, and hopeless the environment may be, get up. A new year has begun. we have to get up You shouldn't despair by blaming the environment while sitting, and you shouldn't complain that you can't do anything lying down. You have to get up from failure. We need to get up from where we fell. A broken soul must be raised, and a lost health must be restored. We need to rebuild the economy that has fallen. You need to build up crooked relationships. We are never the ones who have to fall down and stay the way we are. God is
1) Are you tired of doing your Lord's work? I have to get up. Are you tired of praying and evangelizing, serving and missionary, and worshiping? I have to get up. God sent an angel to give bread and water to Elijah, who was exhausted from doing God's work and fell down under the rosemary tree, and said, "Get up and eat" (1 Kings 19:5). If there are those who have lost them, we must eat the bread of living water and stand up this year.
2) Are you in a situation where you can't get up because you collapsed? Is it a psychological illness? Is it a physical illness? Are you mentally ill? Is it a disease of the soul? Jesus told the 38-year-old sick man by the pool of Bethesda, "Get up, pick up your bed and walk" (John 5:8). The 38-year-old man also got up after meeting Jesus. Don't despair if you can't do anything. When I can't do it, it's a signal to do it with the power of God. May you rise up in the power of the Lord.
(Gospel Hymn 683 In the name of Jesus, I will stand up, with the power the Lord has given me, I will stand up. Even if an enemy comes toward me, I will not fall. Even in the midst of it, we believe it will happen.
3) As Peter and John were going to the temple to pray, they sat in front of the beautiful gate and told the lame beggar, “In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, get up and walk” (Acts 3:6). It happened. Even if you have attended church for decades this year, I hope you will experience the miracle that happens in faith like a crippled person who has to be caught and dragged and carried. Please rise from faith that asks to faith that gives. I hope that the economy will rise, families will rise, skills will rise, faith will rise, business will arise, and the church will rise. May you receive the blessing of waking up from your sleep with God's grace and power.
We are people who cannot give up only when they give up. They are people who cannot despair only when they are frustrated and desperate.
2. May the new year be a shining year.
God tells Isaiah to shine. Light is what takes away darkness. Light is what makes things discernible. Light is what warms. Light is what drives away evil. The darkness of this world cannot be removed by darkness. There must be light. It is only light that takes away darkness.
1) What is this light? It points to our Lord Jesus Christ. In John 1:9, Jesus is called "the true light, the light that comes into the world and gives light to every man." John 9:5 says, "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." It shows the future kingdom that will be restored through Jesus the Messiah 700 years before the coming of Jesus. This light comes only from our God. Look at verse 19 and verse 20. It will be everlasting light, and God will be our glory. With this light our days of sorrow will end.
2) How can it shine? not my light See verse 2. Because the glory of the Lord has come. The world is dark. Darkness covered the earth, and darkness covered all peoples. But when the glory of the Lord comes, we can become a light and take away the darkness. The church will become the light, brighten the world, warm the world, and become the standard of the world
3) What happens when we shine? (3)
The church will see the light and many people will gather (3). There will be many people who believe in our deeds. “[Matthew 5:16] In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” God will be glorified (19). Your days of sorrow will come to an end (20).
3. I hope that the new year will be a year of raising your eyes and seeing all sides.(4)
You shouldn't be complacent in your current situation. It is said to lift up your eyes and look all around. You can't see it when it's dark. But if the light of Jesus shines on it, you can see it. If you have the eyes of faith, you will be able to see the invisible.
1) What does our God tell us to look at?
(1) He told them to look at the members of the church gathering from all directions. (4) It prophesies that the nations (gentiles) of the world will gather to the church by the light of the Messiah's salvation shining on Israel. It refers to the salvation history of the Gentiles through the gospel. What will happen then? See verse 5. There is joy. There is dynamism. This is because the abundance of the sea and the riches of the nations are coming to you. “The abundance of the sea returns to you, and the riches of the nations come to you.” Of course, it speaks of the devotion of millions of people who come to Jesus in the New Testament times. Today we must have eyes to see this. See verses 6-7. See verses 8-9. Through Isaiah, God is showing the New Testament church as a whole. They are seeing how prosperous the Messiah's kingdom, the kingdom of God, will spread. See verse 10.
(2) We are told to look at the world of peace that cannot be closed (11).
The historical significance refers to the state of Israel's restoration, where the war has already ended and the safety of the city is fully guaranteed. An era of peace that does not need to be closed day and night is unfolding.
(3) Look at the holy church where sinners come and fall down before the Lord (13,14)
(4) It is to be chosen from the place of being forsaken and look forward to eternal beauty and joy for generations to come (l5)
(5) See the change from lowliness and poverty to nobility and abundance (17).
(6) It is to look at the transformation from desolation and ruin to salvation and praise (18,19).
(7) See the changes from the small and the weak to the great and the strong.(22)
2) Who accomplishes this? (22)
Who accomplishes this? Do we have the strength to do it? Can you do it with my abilities? Look at verse 22. God does it. God glorifies us (Isaiah 60:9b).
We cannot do it by our own strength, nor by our strength, but by the power of the Holy Spirit of our God, we can do it abundantly.
And he spoke to me, saying, These are the words of the LORD to Zerubbabel, saith the LORD of hosts, Not by might, not by might, but by my god (Zechariah 4:6).
It can be by faith. Please open your eyes of faith high and wide. And please have a large vessel of faith.
"Jesus said to him, "If it is possible, what do you mean? Nothing is impossible for those who believe." (Mark 9:23) Please enjoy the blessing that it may be done according to your faith this year.
Even if we cannot do it in our own strength, we can do it through prayer.
He said to them, "This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer." (Mark 9:29)
The new year has begun. Please don't look desperate. A hopeful new year. It is a new year with our God.
1. I hope the new year will be a year of rising (1).
2. May the new year be a shining year.
3. I hope that the new year will be a year of raising your eyes and seeing all sides.(4)
