Old Testament
14. When Hezekiah saw the writing from the hand of the messengers, he went up to the house of the Lord and spread the writing before the Lord.
15. And he prayed to the LORD, saying,
16. O LORD Almighty, the God of Israel among the cherubim, you are the only God in all the nations under the heavens; you made the heavens and the earth.
17. Incline your ear, O LORD, and hear; O LORD, open your eyes and see. Hear all the words that Sennacherib has sent to blaspheme the living God.
18. The kings of Assyria, O LORD, have made the nations and their land desolate,
19. They threw their gods into the fire, but they were not gods, but the work of human hands, wood and stone, and therefore they were destroyed.
20. Now deliver us from his hand, O LORD our God, so that all the nations of the world may know that you are the LORD.
new testament
27. But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28. Bless those who curse you and pray for those who insult you.
29. Whoever strikes you on one cheek, turn the other cheek, and to the one who takes your cloak do not refuse your underwear
30. Give to him who asks of you, and do not ask him who takes what is yours again.
31. Treat others as you would like them to treat you.
sermon
It is a time of deep conflict. Terrorism and wars are taking place everywhere, and there is no peace in the family and society. How can we make peace?
The most important way to create peace is to pray to the Lord, the Prince of Peace. Where the Lord is, there is peace. Isaiah 37 is a situation in which Jerusalem is in crisis due to the Assyrian invasion. In this crisis, Hezekiah prayed. Prayer brings peace.
Many people believe that a strong army brings peace. A strong army can temporarily block the riots of a weak enemy. But military power is not a real guarantee of peace.
Justice makes peace. The effect of justice is peace. When justice is broken, peace is also broken. No matter how strong the military might be, if justice is broken, peace is at stake. Resistance escalates, terrorism ensues, and finally military clashes.
Love makes peace. Justice alone does not create peace. They often have different definitions. Love goes beyond justice and has the explosive power to create peace. The devil cannot overcome love.
Love has the power to fundamentally bind the forces of violence and hate. There is God's power in love. The path that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, took was the path of love.
The church is a place to nurture workers who have love in their hearts. You must be a person who builds peace with love.
