Romans 10:14-15
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 How can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, Beautiful are the feet of them that bring good news.
1. Beautiful Feet
Nail shops are booming in America. Many American women have their nails done. I care as much about my nails as I do with my face. So Koreans are making a lot of money with this job.
However, the toenails are cut cleanly and manicure is applied to make them look beautiful, but the problem is that the shape of the feet is not very pretty. It is said that many people have an unsightly shape because most of their feet are deformed because they wear high-heeled shoes to look tall and slim.
The feet of soldiers and athletes are also not very well-formed. There are a lot of people who run and use a lot, so blisters form, bursts, and cracks form, like cow soles.
Not only these, but most people's feet have the toughest shape compared to other parts of the body. The reason is that you have to carry your whole body to go anywhere and cover it with dust.
So, making the most difficult foot shape gives you the same satisfaction as making the whole body beautiful, so you spend a lot of money to manage it.
But the Bible teaches that beautiful feet are not in their shape or color, but in what are they used for? That is, where do those feet go? It depends on what you are going for.
It is said that the price of the feet of world-class sprinters and soccer players these days is extremely high. Brazilian soccer star Ronald's feet are gleaming with a golden light. Hwang Yeongjo, a marathon star in Korea, will also have a huge foot price.
But there are more beautiful feet than that. It is "the feet of those who bring good news."
2. Why not preach the good news?
Why can't we have one foot just because it's so beautiful? According to data published in 1998 by Mi-Jun Han in a joint survey with Gallup Korea - "Church Activities and Faith Consciousness of Korean Protestants" - 72.1% of church members do not do evangelism. Only 4.3% responded that they worked hard.
However, when asked why they cannot evangelize, 40.6% said they were too busy with their lives, 25.4% said they did not set an example for themselves, 22.3% said they wanted to do it but were not confident of salvation, and 4.9% said they did not have the assurance of salvation.
These answers testify that we still don't know what the "good news" is. And knowingly, they are not seeking the ability to communicate.
"Good news" is a matter of life. You know the story behind the hills of Marathon in Greece. At that time, in a battle with the Spartan army, the probability of defeat was very high, and it was the soldier who had saved all the distinguished guests of Athens from committing suicide, who had traveled 40 kilometers to announce the victory of the Athenian army. If the "good news" had not been announced, the lives of many of Athens' distinguished guests would have been lost. The marathon, the flower of the Olympics, was started to commemorate this.
We must believe that the events of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection are the gospel of life that announces liberation to sinners.
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in him who sent me has eternal life and will not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life (John 5:24).
We must quickly convert from religion to the gospel. The words we are hearing must not turn into drugs that make us forget for a moment from the sufferings of the world. Or we shouldn't strategize it as a luxury that elevates our dignity a little and makes others look intelligent. Or it should not be a playground for self-satisfaction in the name of religion, where we get to know each other and sometimes get together to participate in community service.
The gospel is a matter of life. That is why we must risk our lives and diligently preach this good news. If we are convinced that this message we have received is truly the word of life, we should pray for power to preach it.
Phillips Brooks once said - "Do not do what suits your abilities, but seek the abilities that match your work."
The words of a believer in our Korean church - "Even small is capable, all is versatile, and all is incompetent."
3. Those who are sent
Verse 15 says, ?쏦ow can they preach unless they are sent???We should not use this as an excuse for not being able to convey this message. In other words, "Can't only those who are sent to preach?" is a false claim. Among the things that our Protestant church rediscovered the Bible, there is the doctrine of "the priest of all men." While the Roman Catholic Church refutes the ?쐏riestly theory??that only priests can conduct sacrificial rites, they claim that all Christians are priests. Based on that biblical basis, 1 Peter 2 says, ?쏽ou are a royal priesthood.??That's right.
But the priest's Old Testament work was accomplished by Jesus Christ at once (Hebrews 7:23-28). Instead, bringing the Gentiles to the Lord and reconciling them to God is the priesthood given by Christians.
All things are from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, because God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not imputing their sins to them. and has committed to us the word of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-19).
So Peter said:
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the goodness of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).
Dear saints, We are all sent to preach the gospel of Christ. Since you have been sent, I wish you beautiful feet to spread the good news in your homes, at work, and to your neighbors.
These are the promises given by the Holy Spirit that came upon Daniel.
He who turns many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever (Daniel 12:3b).
