Romans 13:11-14
Clothing is the most essential element of human civilization. So we put clothes before eating. (衣食住) is not called Haji. Even if you can't wear clothes, don't you have to eat? However, living without proper clothing is no different from that of animals, so we really value what we wear. In fact, if there is one thing that is most different from animals, it is in food, clothing, and shelter. Animals also provide food to eat and houses to live in. But there is no beast that lives in clothes on its own.
Man has been clothed since the Garden of Eden. Of course, I didn't buy clothes in the first place. The first humans, Adam and Eve, lived naked, but they were not ashamed. However, after sin entered this earth, I felt ashamed that I was taking off my clothes first, and I put on the leaf clothes, the first fashion of mankind. There was a time when I hung a few leaves on a string with a funny picture and asked what it was, and I said yes as the answer. God made leather garments for Adam and Eve and clothed them. The culture of clothing, which originated from the first leaves and leather clothes, has developed in a very diverse and complex way, and considering that each nation has its own clothes, I think that it is rare that it boasts a long history like clothing and has developed in such a complex and diverse way.
However, as people become more modern, people are more interested in clothes than just to hide their shame or to protect themselves from the cold, but rather to see what kind of clothes they should wear to make them look stylish and beautiful. So there are many people who buy clothes that are beautiful to wear, even if they spend a lot of money. If you go to Apgujeong Street in Gangnam, Seoul, there are really expensive clothes shops, and clothes that cost from millions of won to tens of millions of won are displayed, and they sell well. It is still a story far from us. Even when the economy was really difficult due to the IMF, there was a market that did not suffer much from recession, and it is said that it was a market that sold children's clothes. No matter how difficult it may be, the idea of young mothers these days is that they want to dress their children properly.
In this way, as the years go by, the market for clothes will grow and attract more and more people from around the world.
But, everyone, what kind of clothes are really beautiful?
Are these clothes made by famous designer Pierre Cardin, or are they made by famous designer Andre Kim in our country? Would clothes made from the finest fabrics be the most beautiful clothes? I don't think so. I think really beautiful clothes are clothes that do their job well. No matter how beautiful a piece of clothing may look, if it does not function properly, it will never be considered a good piece of clothing.
To put it simply, clothes have several functions: First, it is a function that hides shame. Even the savage natives of Africa are hiding important parts. The next thing to do is to protect the body. In fact, clothing protects fragile skin from harmful external factors. Especially in the cold winter, well-dressed clothes play an important role in protecting the body. Next is the function that makes people beautiful. When you dress well, you can see that a person looks different.
A really good piece of clothing is one that does these things well. It's nice to look at, but it's not a good outfit if you're going to die from frostbite. It's good to protect your body, but it's never a good outfit if you say it's like rags. No matter how good the fabric is, if it can't cover the shameful part, it won't be a good piece of clothing. Clothes made of gold mesh like a net, or clothes that show through the whole body, cannot be called beautiful clothes. Clothes that have the above three functions and can make the person who wears them beautiful. These are really good clothes.
In this sense, where are the best and most beautiful clothes in the world?
The Bible says that the clothes of Jesus Christ are the most beautiful clothes.
First, the garments of Jesus Christ cover all our shame. Jesus washes away all our shame. He washes you whiter than snow and whiter than wool. And He takes away our sins completely. In a metaphorical way, he treads under his feet and throws them into the sea. If you 'plunge' into the sea and throw it, that's it. Can't find it again.
second. The garments of Jesus Christ are our protective garments. No matter how the devil attacks us, as long as we wear the clothes of Jesus Christ, the devil can never do anything to us. The clothes of Jesus Christ are like the full armor of God to us. The powers of Hades will never prevail. Dress up as Jesus and live your life every day. The devil will come in to attack in one way, and then he will flee in seven ways.
Third, the garments of Jesus Christ are the garments that glorify us. It allows us to be purified and acknowledged before God, to come before God and to praise God for eternity.
We can enter the kingdom of heaven only by putting on the clothes of Jesus Christ.
The feast of the great king was excreted, and people were invited to gather. They all wore robes and participated in the king's banquet. Anyone who was not prepared for the robes could participate in the robes prepared by the royal palace. In the end, however, there was a man who was stubborn and did not wear a robe. The person was forcibly deported.
We can enter the kingdom of heaven only by putting on the clothes of Jesus Christ. How, then, to put on the garments of Jesus Christ?
First, we must take off the dirty clothes of the world. It's not just an overcoat. You have to get rid of the old stuff completely. In today's text, it tells us about the clothes we need to take off. We must take off our clothes of darkness. Only then will you be able to wear beautiful new clothes. You must put off the garments of debauchery, drunkenness, lewdness, and sensuality.
Second, we must wipe away the dirt of the world. We need to wipe away the dirty times of hating, quarreling, and envying each other. To envy and hate is to live like a fly. Paris doesn't go looking for nice and beautiful places. Like the dog I talked about last week, he is always looking for dirty and smelly places. The same goes for timing. It is always hating and envying others by not seeing the good side of others and only seeing the bad side of others. We need to wipe away the dirt of this world.
And third, you must receive and wear the clothes that the Lord has prepared. It is the armor of light, and the white robe of righteousness.
The most beautiful clothes are those of Jesus Christ. If you believe it, please do it. I pray in the name of the Lord that you and I will become more beautiful clothes than any other clothes in the world, who wear Jesus Christ every day.
