I. Text Commentary
II. Pride: The Cause of the Fall
A. Sin and Pride: Sin means disobeying or obeying God's commands, and pride refers to what one considers to be the most correct in one's evaluation of the order of things. At the root of sin lies pride. This is found both in the sin of Adam and Eve and in the sin of execution that continues to this day.
1. From original sin: When God created the world, He created it perfectly, without any lack or ugliness. And He established humans to enjoy and dominate them, and commanded them to live in obedience to and love only God. Only then could man be truly happy, and this was God's order. However, human beings went against the order he had set up in that way, and developed the pride of thinking that they were far more important than God, which made the first human beings sin.
2. In practice sin: We see such pride in our crimes today. Doing what the Bible forbids, thinking that living in disobedience will bring us far greater joy than living in obedience to God's commands. But the moment we sin, we have forsaken God. It is because we confessed in deeds that we are far more important than God who alone is glorified, and that we will not serve such a God, and this is due to pride.
B. Destruction of Community Life: Pride has also shattered the lives of all communities in the world. At the time of creation, all things were originally spiritually connected (intercommunication of all things), and at the apex of this connection was man made in the image of God. However, after the introduction of sin, this spiritual connection was destroyed, and especially the relationship between human beings and the relationship in the community was completely cut off. The destruction of the relationship that started with one person's pride and crime has completely destroyed the relationship and community life of all mankind to be born.
Ⅲ. Humility: The Way of Salvation- If pride was the way of man's fall, humility was God's way of saving us.
A. The Incarnation of Christ: The incarnation of Christ was God's way of saving us through humility. He who was without sin, who was the very essence of God, came in a mortal human body and lived with the same lack, pain, and sorrow as we humans, in order to offer Himself as a propitiation for our sins. However, the incarnation of Christ does not mean that He completely gave up His being God and took on humanity, but, despite its existence, decided not to use it for His own sake and was confined in humanity. There is no more marvelous evidence of God's love than this. In order to save mankind who deserved to be destroyed because of their sins, God, who had no sin, came in a human body and lived a life of tears, sweat, and a cross. Through this, we came to understand the love of God.
B. Establishment of community: Jesus Christ made each of us, saved by the merit of His precious blood, grafted into His body to become a member, so that we may live together with the bestowal of that life. Human pride brought about the destruction of the community, but the humiliation of the incarnate Christ brought about the rebuilding of the community in the world. It will still take a long time for all things to restore their beautiful communal connection at the time of creation, but the Lord is showing us the pre-emptive aspects of complete restoration through the church. The miserable and hopeless who were outside the Lord were saved through Him, and they dared to be grafted into the body of Christ Jesus to become one flesh and one bone, and live a community life under one church and one shepherd. This will show why we need to live in a community of love. Christ came in human form, was despised, and became obedient to the point of death so that we might live the new commandment to love one another. Let's tolerate the members with that love and build up the body of the church more fully through His humility and sacrifice.
IV. The Root of Love: Humility - What kind of attitude do we need to live a life of humility?
A. Contemplating the order of existence
1. The order of existence: When God created all things, He established the order of existence in the order of inanimate objects, plants, animals, and humans. And lower beings were created to contribute to higher beings, and all things, including humans, were created to glorify God. Therefore, to destroy this order is very dirty and ugly to God, and it is a heinous crime.
2. The Fall of Man: Think of our beings, who were created with immortal spirit and body, but had no choice but to be destroyed because of our sins, but who received new life because of Him. Can we not be humbled when we think of our beings who will stand before the eternal Master of our souls?
B. Embracing the mind of Christ: When our hearts are united in the mind of Jesus, the whole church becomes the body of God, enabling us to live the life that Christ would have lived if he had been in this world. The life of the one who loved, forgiven, befriended, and wiped away tears. A lot of hatred and resentment toward the saints, gossip, complaints, harsh evaluations, verbal violence, etc., are just our hearts that have nothing to do with the heart of Jesus. He came this far because of his very patient love, and it is his love that has transformed us in this way. He wants to give the members of the church the love of Jesus that cannot be received anywhere else in the world.
C. Receiving grace: Grace is the influence of love. No one in this world can continue to be humble, who knows his fraction and can be humble all the time. Because even though we are saints, our evil nature remains in us along with the nature of Jesus. In order not to lose my existence when I first met the Lord and the love He gave to me, I must receive grace constantly through the Word and prayer.
V. CONCLUSION AND APPLICATION
Sharing 1. Let's share the life we practiced after hearing the Word (evidence of the gospel, love) last week.
Sharing 2. Let's share the overall content of the sermon in Philippians 2:3 and tell each other what we have come to deeply.
Sharing 3. Let's talk about the difficulties in the community because of pride.
Sharing 4. Why should we live in a community of love?
Sharing 5. We cannot always be humble. In order for us to live a humble life of extreme lowliness, we must receive grace to the full. Let's tell each other what the essence of grace is, and the secret of each person's recovery of this grace one by one. 2006-03-19
