Title: Salvation (John 5:24) ‘07.4.18 Wed.
Contents
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
Knowing what salvation is is a very important question in the beginning of faith. Without salvation, it is impossible to live a life of faith, and it is impossible to receive God's grace and blessings. Because the concept of salvation is not well organized, the view of faith cannot stand upright, and it flows into a shamanistic faith that loses the goal and direction of faith.
1. Why we need to be saved
(Romans 6:23) “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(John 5:24) “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
In order to be transferred from the wages of sin (death, judgment, hell) to eternal life (life, salvation, heaven), we must be saved.
1) What is sin?
(1) the nature of sin
※ Etymology of sin
1) The arrow was shot at the target, but it missed.
2) Something that is not perfect, something lacking and imperfect, is a sin.
* There are two types of human sin: original sin and self-inflicted sin (executive sin).
? (Genesis 3:1-6) - Disobeying and disobeying God's commands (breaking the covenant with God)
(1 Samuel 15:22-23) "Samuel said to him, "Does the Lord take delight in burnt offerings and other sacrifices, as does the obedience of his voice? Obedience is better than sacrifice, and hearing is better than the fat of rams, for disobedience is the sin of witchcraft. and stubbornness is like a sin of worshiping an idol that has been bought. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, the LORD also rejected you from being king.”
☞Rebellion (disobedience) is like the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness (doing one's own will) is like bowing down to idols.
(Isa 59:1-2) “Not that the Lord's hand is short, that it cannot save, nor his ear dull that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he cannot hear you. that you will not.”
☞It is sin to be separated from and destroyed in relationship with God.
? (John 16:9) “Of sin, because they do not believe in Me.”
☞Not believing in Jesus Christ is the greatest sin that cannot be forgiven forever. (Believing in Jesus Christ is the way of salvation and God's will. (John 5:24, John 14:6, Acts 16:31)
(2) The fruit of sin (sin appears to be ethical and moral)
(Ezekiel 8:8-17)/Abominable idolatry, sexual corruption, practice of violence, (spiritual and physical corruption)
(Romans 1:28-31)/All unrighteousness, ugliness, greed, malice, envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, gossip, slander, insult, pride, rebellion, and evil.
(Galatians 6:19-21)/Fornication, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, witchcraft and enmity, strife, anger, strife, separation, envy, drunkenness, debauchery...
(3) Consequences of sin
① We fall short of the glory of God and become enemies with God (Romans 3:23, Isaiah 53:6)
② Death came because of sin (Romans 6:23, Hebrews 9:27)
③ Pain, pain, and unhappiness come to mankind (Genesis 3:15-19)
☞Declaring independence from God with the will to assert oneself, relying on God's infinite resources, thinking that one can pursue one's life and happiness with one's limited resources such as one's wisdom, one's strength, and one's time It is a sin not to do so and not to obey his perfect love and will.
2. Can people save themselves?
1) All the religions that are looking for their own way of salvation / New religions in Korea (Unification Church, Jehovah's Witnesses, Temple of the Tabernacle, Isaac---) alone, there are over 300. How many?
2) Optimists about human civilization/human utopia Utopia (fantasy ideal society), trying to build an utopia, zenithism, Marxists, communists, scientists... Can this save man himself? are there?
3) Philosophers, theologians/Sibaize, Bultmann, Harnack, Nietzsche, Kant, Hegel, Byun Seon-hwan, religious pluralists,
4) Man cannot save himself.
(Acts 4:12) “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
(John 14:6) “Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.”
☞If human beings could save themselves, the problem of being saved from the beginning would not have arisen.
Our salvation does not come from the inherent power of man, but can come only from God outside of man and outside the universe.
3. What is salvation?
Salvation is when the relationship with God, separated by sin, is brought closer to the blood of Christ, and the relationship is completely restored in Christ.
?John 5:24 - to have eternal life, not come into judgment, passed from death to life
Galatians 2:20-Die with Christ and resurrect with Christ, Christ lives in me (present meaning of eternal life) To live in faith in the Son of God, <in this life and in the life to come>
☞It shows well that the present meaning of salvation and the future meaning exist together.
4. Jesus' life, death, and resurrection are events of salvation.
John 14:1-3 - I am preparing a place for you.
I am the way, truth, and life to the Father.
1 Peter 3:18 - “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit.”
○Christ died for the unrighteous as the righteous. (Cross)
○ He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit.
○This is to lead us to God. (Result)
5. Evidences that confirm our salvation
1) Words as objective evidence
(John 3:16) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
(1 John 5:12-13) “He who has the Son has life, and he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. to make it known.”
(John 20:31) “But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
2) Faith as subjective evidence
(Hebrews 11:6-7) “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
(Romans 1:17) “In the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed, from faith to faith, as it is written, The righteous will live by faith.”
3) The Holy Spirit is the surety of our salvation
(Titus 3:5) “He saved us, not because of our works of righteousness, but according to his mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.”
? (Ephesians 1:13-14) "--- being sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, to be the surety of our inheritance, to redeem what we have obtained, to the praise of his glory."
4) The first fruits of salvation
(Romans 14:17) “For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
(Galatians 5:22-23) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
