Title: Same disease, same sin, same temptation

Psalm 78:40 Same disease, same sin, same temptation
One of the titles of our church's united prayer in 2005 is "Let us cast away the image of sin." In other words, since sin is something that God hates and it is an obstacle to blessings, we must keep away from it, try not to sin, and fight against it and overcome it. The Bible says, "You have fought against sin, and have not yet resisted it to the point of shedding blood" (Hebrews 12:4). In other words, sin drives us into curses and judgment, so we must fight against it thoroughly.
But in the last days, people become insensitive to sin. I can't really tell what is sin and what is righteousness. They also take too lightly the effects and consequences of sin. Therefore, they tend to keep their sins casually by their side and become friendly as friends. And when we become so familiar with sin, it tries not to leave us as if it were our true friend and lover.
In this way, it is easy to become a habit of sin, fall into addiction to sin, and fall into slavery to sin. And if you are caught in the habit of sin, the addiction to sin, and the slavery of sin, you will unknowingly commit the same sin over and over again. And the bitter effects and consequences of that repeated sin are not only the person who committed the sin, but also the person's family and those around them. It is not just committing the same sin once or twice, but repeating the same sin over and over again, and the repeated sin is ultimately ruining yourself and those around you.
When we look at the Old Testament, we see how the Israelites sinned and we feel this way. "Hey, maybe you keep committing the same sin over and over again?" As you know, the repeated sins of the Israelites when they escaped from Egypt were complaints. In front of the Red Sea, complaining about lack of food, complaining about lack of meat, complaining about lack of water, complaining about the rough and rough road... He committed the same sin over and over again.
And the same sin they repeatedly committed when they entered the land of Canaan was idolatry. Even though God forbids idolatry through the prophets and forbids them again and again, they continue to commit the sin of idolatry. As a result, the Israelites, who claimed to be the chosen people, were eventually destroyed by Assyria and Babylon. It was not because of the sins of idolatry committed once or twice, but because of the sins of murmuring once or twice, and not living in the wilderness for 40 years, but because of the same sins that were repeated over and over again. Today's text also says so. “How many times have we rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert?” (Psalm 78:40)
Ladies and gentlemen, are you still committing the same sin over and over without knowing it? And do you not even know that you commit the same sin over and over again? Unknowingly, they have become accustomed to sin, become addicted to sin, fall into slavery to sin, commit the same sin over and over again, but have no sense of sin, and furthermore, that repeating sin is destroying itself. Don't you even know?
Of course, there must be a reason for committing the same sin over and over again. The Red Sea water blocked the way, the water ran out, the food ran out, there was no fish, the road was rough and rough... But what is the reason for repeating the same sins over and over? When a difficult situation arises, it is worth trusting in God and praying with patience at least once, but the Israelites repeatedly committed the same sin when difficult situations came.
Ladies and gentlemen, the addictive and addictive nature of sin is very powerful. Just like alcohol, tobacco, or drugs, even though they know that they are bad, they continue to take them without stopping, so people see that their sins are obviously bad, but they do not stop and continue to commit the same sins. And since the sins are the same, you will see that you are being tempted in the same way.
Guys, isn't there such a thing as a genetic disease? If there is a particular disease in a certain family, the children often develop it as well. So, there is a family doctor here who often observes the family's disease history in detail. In my family, when my family is tired, white things are very good on their lips. It's kind of like stomatitis. But, no matter how tired I am, I rarely do that. However, my daughter resembles her mother, so when her body is overworked, such stomatitis often occurs.
Sometimes these inheritances are often seen in their offspring in the same way, not only in disease, but also in personality, habits, and language. That is why there are also words called Bujeonjeon (父傳子傳) and Mojeonnyeojeon (母傳女傳). That is, father and son, mother and daughter are the same. Of course, this isn't absolutely true, but it makes a lot of sense.
If you look in the Bible, you will see this kind of subjunctive warfare. Abraham, who is said to be the father of faith, had a very beautiful wife named Sarah. But Abraham was always afraid that others would take his wife and kill him because his wife was so beautiful. So Abraham deceived his wife as his sister. As a result, the king of Egypt knew that a woman named Sarah was the real Abraham's brother and took her as his wife.
However, he sees the same absurd incident happening to his son Isaac. Isaac also had a very beautiful wife named Rebekah. He also thought that his wife was so beautiful that he was always afraid that others would take her and kill him. So Isaac, like his father Abraham, deceived his wife as his sister.
That is, not only physical diseases, but also mental diseases, such as the character of lying, can be inherited. And the problems and tests that arise from such lies can be nearly identical. So, take a look at your family history. Have you ever had the same disease, the same sin, and the same temptation multiple times? For example, it is a history of how many generations of a disaster such as a car accident occurred, or how many generations of a special disease occurred.
If so, you should be wary of this too. And we will have to solve this problem from a biblical point of view. If not, the same sin, the same disease, and the same temptation may come upon me. Moreover, if I have been subjected to the same sin, temptation, or disease several times, it is very likely that the same will occur in the future.
And in the case of habitual offenders who commit the same crimes repeatedly in any country, the punishment for them becomes more severe. Of course, in the case of habitual offenders, they each have their own reasons. However, it is likely that those who suffer and suffer will be themselves, their families, and those closest to them. Therefore, we must avoid habitual sin.
God knows that we are weak and sinful beings. And I am well aware of the habit of committing the same sin over and over again. But if you keep committing those same sins, above all else, your conscience is dirty. The heartache will only get worse. Your pride as a child of God is destroyed.
But what is more frightening than that is that they become accustomed to the habit of sin, and later the sin is not regarded as a sin but as righteousness, and a lie turns into the truth. has the potential to become Therefore, we need to examine the habits of repeated sin that appear without us knowing. And I have to hate myself for that repetitive sin, grieve for myself for committing it over and over again, and ask Jesus for help to completely cut off that repetitive sin from me.
As you know, sin destroys the Garden of Eden. Sin also destroys man, who was made in the image of God. Moreover, repeated sin destroys the Garden of Eden and mankind more completely. Even though Jesus died on the cross to save me and you, who were destroyed by sin, and to restore the Garden of Eden, if we continue to sin repeatedly, the power of the cross will weaken. Therefore, afterward, he is once again captured by the devil of sin and plunges himself into the pit of destruction.
In 1 Kings 11, we see King Solomon, whom we know well. He started out as a king loved by God. But after that, besides the daughter of Pharaoh king of Egypt, he fell in love with many foreign women, including the women of Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and Hitt. So, there were seven hundred concubines and three hundred binjangs, with a total of 1,000 wives. Of course, Solomon was well aware that God forbids having so many wives.
Nevertheless, as Solomon continued to have a wife, later he came to think of having a wife as easily as buying a dollar of chewing gum. In other words, he had habitually committed the same sin of having many wives. And as the same sins piled up, they faced the same temptation. It was none other than the queens who turned Solomon's heart away from God and made him worship idols.
And the Bible introduces the result as follows. “The Lord appeared to me twice about this, and commanded me not to follow any other gods, but he did not keep the command of the Lord, so the Lord said to Solomon, “This has happened to you, and you Because you have not kept the law which I commanded you, I will by all means take this kingdom from you and give it to your servants” (1 Kings 11:9-11).
In other words, Solomon committed the same sin of marrying another 999 times by marrying another wife, thereby continuing to commit the same sin of idolatry. Therefore, even if God personally appeared twice and told him not to do it, Solomon, who was accustomed to repeated sins, fell to a point where he could not even listen to God's counsel. In other words, the strength to overcome sin and the strength to keep God's commands have only been lost. Therefore, Solomon became a bad king who continued to commit the sin of idolatry even when God told him not to do it.
Ladies and gentlemen, we need to be careful when the same sin is repeated. It is that the sin you take lightly can later lead you to ruin and unhappiness. that it can put you to the test. It can lead to separation from God and a broken relationship with God. I can be like Solomon.
Gentlemen, God's thoughts toward us are not disaster, but peace. Not a curse, but a blessing, not a disease, but health, not misery, but happiness. God wants to make us happy yesterday and today. To that end, God is telling us to stand firm against the same sin that happens to us. He tells us not to fall into the same test. It tells us to be free from the same disease. I pray that you will live a happier life despite these same sins, the same tests, and the same diseases.
