Title: Sanctification and the Holy Spirit / Romans 8
Content Sanctification and the Holy Spirit
Romans 8
1. People of the Spirit (1-11)
① Two kinds of condemnation and treatment
External Objective Condemnation - Condemnation from God
Inner subjective condemnation - There is a condemnation expressed in the lamentation of chapter 7, 'O wretched man I am'.
The objective healing of condemnation is accomplished only once by the blood of Jesus Christ, but the subjective healing of condemnation requires the Spirit of Life. This is done daily by the Spirit within us.
② Impossibility of the Law and God's Solution
The law cannot give life.
The law makes it impossible for us to obey God.
The law makes us unable to love God.
But God does all this by giving the Son.
③ Three truths
We are spiritual people because we have the Spirit of God in us.
Because Christ is in us, we must live in a righteous spirit.
Because the Holy Spirit dwells in us, even our bodies are resurrected and enjoy life.
2. Heirs of God (12-17) - The life of adopted saints
① We must pay off the debt of the Holy Spirit. As the spirit, the deeds of the body are put to death, and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit,
② We must call God Abba, Father. Even as a child, when he calls his father with confidence and love and trust, he answers everything.
③ We must live with the hope of becoming God's heirs. As a condition of inheriting the glory of God, we must overcome the present hardships and win.
3. Hope and Patience (18-25)
It teaches patience in the midst of suffering.
4. Assurance of Salvation (26-39)
Salvation is the unwavering grace of God, and nothing can destroy it. We must go on the path of sanctification with the assurance of salvation and with patience.
① Human weakness and the help of the Holy Spirit
He helps the weak, helps the saints in prayer, and works together for good.
② Satan’s Offensive and the Triune God
Satan's offensive - accusation, condemnation, and trying to break from the love of Christ
With God's help, we can overcome more than enough.
