Title: Satan's Bondage (Revelation 20:1-3)
2. The period of bondage, verse 2, the second half. The first half of verse 3 says, “They will seize him, bind him for a thousand years, and throw him into the abyss, lock him up, and seal him up over it, until the thousand years are complete.” For a thousand years there will be no demonic shadows to be seen. Satan has worked like a lion all day and night to annihilate the kingdom of God, the enemy of mankind since human history, but he will be stuck for 1000 years. They are said to be bound for 1000 years and thrown into the abyss. The abyss means hell, and the original meaning is a cave under the ground, where the dead go. There is only a narrow passage in this abyss, but an angel imprisoned Satan in the abyss and closed the gap. So, what the devils are most afraid of is this abyss. So, in Luke 8:31, in the story of the man possessed by the demons of Gerasea, the demons demanded that Jesus not tell him to leave the man and go to the deep, that is, into the abyss. The devil must be in the abyss for 1000 years.
3. The reason for the bondage, verse 3, middle verse “They made it impossible to deceive the nations again.” It was to avoid being deceived. To deceive means to deceive and corrupt. It means to lead them into temptation by falling into the wrong path, and to wander astray by losing the right path. The devil, Satan, the old serpent, and the red great dragon are imprisoned in Hell so that mankind will never again be tainted with evil or suffer from evil and sin so that mankind can establish truth and justice and the kingdom of God. Satan's lies, the escape from which only godly people without threats sing. For that, the Lord is imprisoning Satan. God will imprison Satan so that he cannot tempt mankind again by chains, abyss, imprisonment, or any other means. But after 1000 years it will be released for a while.
