Subject: Asking only by faith
Text: Genesis 5:21-24, James 1:5-8
When the Apostle James was serving the Jerusalem church, we learn that there were many trials for the churches outside the Jerusalem church. The problems presented in the book of James are the dangers of corrupting the fellowship of the saints through external persecution, the tyranny of the ungodly rich, the formal faith of some saints, and judging people by their appearance. Two things are emphasized through the book of James. ‘Patience’ and ‘Pure Faith’. The Apostle James taught that 'perseverance' is a godly disposition to be possessed in order to become a blameless child of the Lord, and 'pure faith' is not only leading to right actions before God, but also living a life that sets a Christian example in the world give it It does not teach the priorities of faith and works, but pure faith that brings joy to God and a blessing to us.
“Consider it all joy when you meet various trials” (James 1:2). And explain why (verses 3 and 4). The next verse is today's New Testament text. It is a way to make up for our shortcomings in the process of enduring trials and reaching endurance. Here, ‘wisdom’ is the sum total of grace that believers who are going through trials should receive from God. ‘If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault. and it will be given to you” (James 1:5). It means that God will provide for all the needs we face in our lives as children of God. It is God's grace that fills the needs of the saints who live their lives but live according to God's will. It means that God will provide for our needs to live according to the Lord's Prayer that the Lord has taught us. all the needs.
This is the attitude of the saints who seek this desperate help. It is an attitude of receiving the grace of God filling our shortcomings. It is also an attitude of prayer. “Ask in faith, and do not doubt at all” (James 1:6a). It is a prayer of faith in God. It is a prayer of faith that will be answered. God is Jehovah, faithful to his promises. With this faith, there was a prayer waiting for the Messiah in the Old Testament times. And the incarnation of Jesus Christ was accomplished. The New Testament era promised the presence of the Holy Spirit, “another Comforter” (John 14:16; Acts 1:8). Our prayers for the filling of the Holy Spirit are based on this promise. Let's find and meditate on the words associated with 'Ask in faith alone, with no doubting' (John 7:37-39; Mark 11:24; 1 John 5:13-15). You will be filled with the Holy Spirit. Amen.
