Psalm 51:1-7 Introspection
Guys, have you ever heard of this? "If you break an egg by yourself, it becomes a living bird, and if someone breaks it, it becomes only a disposable fry."
Ladies and gentlemen, everyone is surrounded by their own ego and a shell of prejudice and stereotypes. And as you live your life in harmony, various bad thoughts may exist without your knowledge or without anyone else's knowledge. The bad memories of the past, the bitter wounds of 2003 that are already old, and the hard shells of hatred, anger, resentment, irritation, stress, resentment, and complaints can be created.
And these shells make one's life more frustrating and lead to unhappiness. When these shells are broken by self-reflection, they are reborn anew, but when such bad shells are broken by intention other than oneself, another It is a phrase that can be hurt.
Ladies and gentlemen, at this time of worship on the last Sunday of 2003, would you like to savor these words once again? "If you break an egg by yourself, it becomes a living bird, and if someone breaks it, it becomes only a disposable fry."
Everyone, would you like to answer this question? "When you are bitten by a viper, will you follow the viper, or will you first get rid of the poison that spreads through my body?"
This answer is so obvious. The first thing to do is to get rid of the poison in my body. However, in the daily life of many people, we see that this is not the case. Rather than removing the poison in me first, I pursue to kill the person who poisoned me, cursed, hurt and harmed me.
If you do, you lose the time to remove the poison that has spread inside you, and you die first because of the poison. Of course, you can chase and kill the viper that bit you. But wouldn't it be more important for me to live than to kill the viper? In other words, it is more important to have time to reflect on the task of removing the poison from my body and removing the poison on my own.
Ladies and gentlemen, even in 2003, many vipers attacked our lives. However, the Bible says, "These signs will follow those who believe; if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them" (Matthew 16:17-18). In other words, we believers have the power to remove the poison on our own. And that power comes from self-reflection.
Guys, the power of reflection is really great. When you reflect, all your worries, worries, and insecurities will disappear. When you reflect, all your complaints, dissatisfaction, distrust, resentment, grumpiness, and irritation will all disappear. If you reflect, you can find an infinitely clear, calm, upright and round heart.
The people of the world know how to get rid of visible garbage, but they do not know how to clean the dust accumulated in their hearts. You can put out the visible fire, but you don't know how to put out the fire inside your heart. The fire in your heart cannot be put out even if you pour out all the water from the Han River, but if you reflect on it, it will go out sooner or later.
Reflection drives away the anguish and anguish in our hearts, gives happiness, peace, and a grateful heart. Reflection purifies the vicious temper that writhes in our hearts, and refreshes our stuffy hearts.
Self-reflection has the mysterious power to naturally release the other person if I first reflect on the feelings that are entrenched between people. This is because spirit and spirit are talking to each other in silence. Self-reflection opens my heart wide open to my lonely self
It leads you to a world of wide harmony where you and I are harmonious in the world. Reflection also brings health by removing various toxins from our body and improving blood circulation.
Therefore, before the end of this 2003 year, let's take a moment for self-reflection. I would like to propose the 10/10 rule of reflection here. At the end of the day, at the end of the day, deliberately find and reflect on 10 things to reflect on during the day. If you look for 10 things you did wrong in your mind, wrong words, and actions, you will find a lot of things to reflect on.
Then, intentionally find 10 things to be grateful for today and have a grateful heart. There are so many people to be thankful for if you look for them, such as the kindness you have for your parents, the gratitude between your spouse and family, the gratitude you have for your boss, your colleagues at work, the gratitude for your friends, customers, and neighbors. We just forget about it.
And if you practice this every day, your heart will be filled with joy and gratitude, and your stress will disappear by itself. As if flying away, the mind becomes light and refreshed. After cleaning out the fifty thousand clutter in the mind, sleep comes naturally. When you wake up, your mind and body are still refreshed.
The reason the world is so chaotic today is probably because there is no real self-reflection from me. However, as we pass the year 2003 and welcome the new year 2004, we must boldly shatter the bad old shells through self-reflection and be reborn. Just as a cocoon sheds its skin and is reborn as a butterfly, as a living creature in an egg breaks out of its strange shell and becomes a bird flying in the sky, we must reflect on ourselves and be born in a new form.
The apostle Paul confessed, "I die daily" (1 Corinthians 15:31). That is, he breaks his lusts and lusts that are against the Lord every day. It is that such an evil self is crucified and killed. In other words, he was a person who reflected on himself every day. He did not necessarily reflect and repent only when tribulation and hardship came, but he was a person who introspected himself and reflected on himself every day in ordinary life.
Also, in today's text, we can see the reflection of David, the great king of Israel. He confessed to himself, "For I know my transgressions, and my sins are always before me" (Psalm 51:3). And to David who reflected in this way, God once again gave him a clean heart and made him a new start in life.
Gentlemen, true change must start with reflection from me and change from me. And only those who can achieve a change from self through self-reflection can build the kingdom of heaven in their heart and show others the kingdom of heaven that has been made in their heart.
Parents reflect on their children that they do not listen to their parents because their parents are not right If politicians try to reflect on themselves because there is no trust in their actions, this world will become a more beautiful and happier world.
There is a saying, "If the superior is right, he will obey even if he does not command; if the superior is not right, he will not obey even if he orders it." No matter how much you clean it with a dirty rag, it will never be clean. Wouldn't it be more urgent to wash your own dirty rag first? In other words, self-reflection is the most urgent.
Among the successive kings of Korea, King Sejong the Great is highly respected. While he was on the throne, a report came in that a man from Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, had killed his father. The king was greatly astonished and wept, saying, "In ancient China, when there was King Yao, it is said that the people imitated the kind heart of a king. It's because I didn't teach them well and I didn't manage them well."
In other words, great men always examine their own shortcomings first and reflect on themselves first. However, the small person does not have the heart of self-reflection to examine his own lack, so he always slanders others and sees only bad things. In other words, societies, countries, families, and churches where there are many people who reflect on themselves can be reconciled and happy.
In the US state of Colorado, the remains of a giant tree over 400 years old still remain. The tree has been struck by lightning 14 times in its long life, and has been struck by numerous avalanches and storms. But this tree has withstood all these adversities.
But one day, this old tree fell down. How did this giant tree fall? It was ridiculously because of the beetle. The beetle burrowed into the bark and attacked constantly, bit by bit, destroying the vitality of the tree's interior. So, for 400 years, it did not give in to lightning and storms, but it fell to the insect, a small creature that even the fingertips of a person can rub.
In other words, the small hatred, resentment, complaint, resentment, greed, etc., which we unknowingly dig into, pile up in our heart one by one and collapse at some point. In other words, a person who cannot reflect on himself may be able to win outwardly, but eventually he will fall because he cannot overcome himself on the inside, that is, himself. Therefore, in order to overcome the world, there is something more important than being the possessor of a strong heart, and that is the attitude of daily self-reflection.
Gentlemen, who will break your bad heart, complaints, resentment, greed, pride, envy, jealousy, selfishness, etc.? Of course, someone else can break it. It can be broken through hardships and trials. But keep in mind. "If someone else breaks it, it's only a disposable fry, and when you break an egg by yourself, it becomes a living bird."
Everyone, as the year of 2003 comes to a close in just a few days, I hope that we will break our shells and become a bird so that we can become a new figure soaring in the sky. And in 2004, I hope that our dreams, God's dreams, will come true.
