Title: Serving Mark 10:41-45
Contents Mark 10:41-45
What does it mean to believe in Jesus the most? It refers to the one who resembles Jesus the most. I want to be like Jesus, but it doesn't work. It is because we do not know who Jesus is and we do not know what He wants.
If you look at today's text, you can find out who Jesus is, what it is to be like Jesus, and what it means to believe in Jesus well. At the place where Jesus and his disciples were gathering and sharing a meal, the story of the mother of Brothers James and John asking Jesus to sit down, one on the right hand side and the other on the left hand side of the throne, appears when the mother of brothers arrives at the kingdom of God. To that question, Jesus asks, “Can you drink my cup?” He tells a parable of His crucifixion. It means that the people of the world exercise authority with authority, but the authority in the Gospel, that is, the Bible, is different. In Jesus, he is paradoxically saying that those who want to become great must serve others and become servants.
The world sets the standards of power, authority, domination, pressure, popularity, wealth, and learning, but Christianity should be the attitude of a servant to serve, to serve, to sacrifice, to understand, to consider, to forgive, and to share.
In one survey, “Jesus! What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you think of it?” The most answered “it is love”.
The Bible says that love is service, sacrifice, service, and sharing. Serving means concern and understanding. Serving means caring and sharing. The more mature you are, the more considerate of others.
An immature person thinks only of himself and does not care for others, is rude and does not share.
Serving means humility. Humility is when you keep coming down and raise others higher than you. As Jesus said in today's text that the person who becomes the servant is the most important, the one who serves can become a leader. The world is looking for leaders who serve.
So how should we serve? In John 13:4, Jesus himself is telling us how to serve others. This is the content that shows the example of those who serve.
First, he said to ‘get up from where you ate dinner’. This refers to the decision of the heart. It is the decision to put what I think into action. Faith without works is dead faith, so it is important to put thoughts into action. Second, it was said to ‘take off your outer garments’. Clothes speak of identity. To take off your outer garment means to put down your identity. It is said that those who serve others must give up their status. Third, it was said, “Take a towel and pour it into a basin.” To serve is to serve with what you have. It's about doing what I can. Fourth, it was said, 'Tie a towel around your waist'. This refers to active action. Serving others is something you should be active in.
Hymn 278 refers to this as a “holy hand.” The hands of Jesus washing the disciples' feet are holy hands. In this way, I have to serve others with the most precious thing I have.
“I give all my allegiance to the Lord whom I love, and even though I am in pain and joy, I do my best to serve you. Our Lord, our holy hand, by washing the feet of the disciples, he personally shows the way of a servant who serves others” (Hymns 278:2)
Like Jesus in today's text, I hope we can all become servants. The basis of a Christian should be service. A life lived for others like Jesus should be a Christian life.
