Title: Seventh-day Sabbath
Contents
The seventh-day Sabbath is the Sabbath of God. The Sabbath of God is the eternal Sabbath, in which he made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them in six days, and rested in peace on the seventh day.
God's seventh day is different from man's seventh day. Man's day is when the sun sets and becomes evening, and when the sun rises in the morning, God's day is different from the day the sun sets and the sun rises.
The Bible speaks of the day of God
(Genesis 1:3-5) "God said, Let there be light, and there was light, and God saw that the light was good. God divided the light from the darkness, and he called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night." And there was morning, the first day.”
(Genesis 1:8) "...and there was evening and there was morning, the second day."
(Genesis 1:13) “And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.”
(Genesis 1:19) “And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.”
(Genesis 1:23) “And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.”
(Genesis 1:31) “...and there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”
(Genesis 2:2-3) “When the seventh day came, the work that God had made was finished, and he rested on the seventh day from the completion of the work that he had made. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because God created and made it. After all that he had done, he rested on this day.”
God made the seventh-day Sabbath known to the people of Israel by applying God's day to the world's days through Moses, the faithful servant. “But because their hearts are hardened, and even to this day, when we read the Old Testament, the veil has not been taken off, and the veil will be taken away in Christ” (2 Corinthians 3:14).
It is written about the seventh day of the world, “The seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God, and you shall not do any work, neither you nor your son or your daughter, nor your male servant or your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor the stranger who sojourns in your gates, for in six days For the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy" (Exodus 20:10-11). Six days shall work, but the seventh day is a great sabbath, holy to the Lord, and everyone who works on the sabbath shall be put to death. created the heavens and the earth in six days, and rested and rested on the seventh day.” (Ex 31:15-17) The seventh-day Sabbath in the world was only an eternal sign between God and the children of Israel.
Therefore, “Moses gathered all the congregation of Israel and said to them, ‘This is what the LORD has commanded you to do: Six days work, and the seventh day is holy to you, a special Sabbath to the LORD. You shall not make fires in any of your dwellings” (Ex 35:1-3), a harsh testimony to the entire congregation of Israel about the seventh-day Sabbath.
If there was a true rest in the days of the world, Joshua should have given Israel rest in Canaan, but since the Sabbath of the world is only a shadow of the true rest, the Bible says, “Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, if you hear his voice today, Do not harden your hearts, as when you were tempted and tested in the wilderness, where your fathers tried and tested me, and forty years saw my works” (Hebrews 3:7-9). If Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken of another day after that. Therefore, the time of rest remains for the people of God. Those who have entered his rest will rest from their work, just as God rests from their work. Make every effort to enter into the rest, so that no one will fall from that example of disobedience” (Hebrews 4:8-11).
Therefore, the Sabbath of the day of man is completely different from the Sabbath of the day of God. Therefore, he testified, “Beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” (2 Peter 3:8). These are shadows of things to come, but the body belongs to Christ” (Colossians 2:16-17).
In this way, we will wake up from the darkness of the world's sabbath, which is a shadow, and strive to enter into God's eternal rest. “Therefore, there is a rest for the people of God” (Hebrews 4:9).
