entry
I remember seeing an ancient war movie on television.
In a wide field, when the soldiers on both sides face each other and camp, one general comes out and whoever can fight me, come out./ If I shout, a general will come out from this side as well. Put on armor, ride a horse, wield a sword with a long spear, and go out to fight with a shield. Imagine fighting each other. Blocking it with a shield and stabbing it with a spear...... If the shield breaks or the shield is dropped, it is the same as losing one's life and losing one's life.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober and watchful, your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion
Are you looking for someone to devour?
1 Peter 5:9 Oppose him, strong in the faith, for you who are in the world
Knowing that the brothers also suffer the same
In the message given to us today, we will examine the fourth shield of faith among the weapons we must have in order to win the spiritual battle.
Does our Captain, the Lord, have the shield of faith that we can use to stop all the weapons of the enemy? Are you armed with a strong shield of faith that can block any fiery arrows, or whether you have a weak shield that can break and fall off, and the enemy's fiery arrows can break through? Christ will check each and every one of them at this time today.
Verse 16 tells us to take up the shield of faith above all things.
1. What does everything mean?
These are the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the spirit of the gospel, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Word, and the sword of the Holy Spirit.
Why should we have the shield of faith above all of this?
Faith gives us confidence in all things spiritually armed.
Without faith, there is no confidence in the truth. Is it true?
Without faith, there is no assurance of righteousness. Have I really been made righteous through Jesus?
Without faith, we lose our confidence in the gospel of peace. I am a sinner, can I truly be reconciled to God?
The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the spirit of the gospel, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Word, the sword of the Holy Spirit... Faith is what gives us confidence in what we are armed with. You must have faith so that Satan cannot find an opportunity to attack.
2. What is faith?
Faith (πίστις): belief, trust, recognition, acceptance,
When we express that we believe or trust anything, there is always an object.
Faith has an object. Whether the object is a god, a person, or a thing, there is a definite object.
Verse 16 says, “Take up the shield of faith.” The word faith used here is especially used when referring to God and things related to God.
God is my God. God is omnipotent. Creator, justice, love....God is my Father. Jesus is my Lord. When we say ..... we use the word pistis.
So, in other words, belief is the acknowledgment of facts as facts.
Faith is our confession of faith in God.
Faith is trusting in God and trusting in the Lord.
Accepting all that God has done is faith, and acknowledging it is faith.
Faith is accepting all that Jesus has done for me when he came to this earth.
It is also faith that makes hope come true.
Hebrews 11:1 “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”
4 “Without faith it is impossible to please…”
3. What is the slash of the evil one?
What kind of arrows does Satan shoot at us?
// What kinds of fire arrows are there?
1. Satan shoots fire arrows of fear.
Fear of disaster, through the words of someone, through changes in the environment, through news, sin, death...and so forth, shooting arrows of fear. If we become seized with fear for any reason, this fear will spread more and more and destroy our faith. It undermines our trust in God.
Satan knows that fear destroys faith, so he shoots arrows of fear at us.
Jesus and his disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee in a boat.
It was going well, and the wind blew and a storm began to blow. At that time, Satan shot an arrow of fear, and the disciples were not able to stop it with the shield of faith, but were struck by Satan's arrow and were trembling in fear. He was so afraid that when he woke Jesus from his sleep, he said, “Lord, do you not look back on our death? ” After Jesus calmed the storm, he said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Why do you have no faith ?
In war, fear of the enemy leads to loss of courage and defeat.
In 1 Samuel 17, the Philistines waged war against Israel with a general named Goliath.
The king and soldiers of Israel were afraid to show their faces because of the enemy named Goliath.
1 Samuel 17:11 When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistines, they were astonished and were greatly afraid.
But David had no fear. David did not receive any military training and did not have a weapon suitable for him, but he went ahead with faith with a water mill and defeated Goliath, who was the object of his fear. Victory over fear was victory in war.
“…I come to you in the name of the LORD, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have insulted.
1 Samuel 17:47 And this multitude knew that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear.
The war belongs to the LORD, and he will deliver you into our hands.”
The shield of faith blocks the fiery arrows of fear. Faith protects us from fear and gives us victory.
2. Satan shoots arrows of doubt at us.
James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting,
Like the waves of the sea tossed and tossed by the wind
James 1:7 Let no such man think that he will get anything from the Lord.
James 1:8 A double-minded, undecided in all things.
Evil spirits fire arrows of doubt, knowing that if we doubt, we will get nothing from God.
Doubts about salvation, - Am I really saved?
Doubts about Love - Does God Really Love Me? Are you not lying to deceive me? If God loves me, can He give me such trials?
Still, I tried to live by faith, but this kind of thing happened to me./Has God forsaken me?
Is this word of God true?
Did God really create the heavens and the earth? Is it true that He raised the dead, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven? Do heaven and hell really exist?
The shield of faith blocks all the fire arrows of doubt so that our hearts do not waver.
The shield of faith defeats all doubts and gives you victory.
3. Satan shoots the fiery arrows of temptation.
Temptation to sin, temptation to riches, temptation to fame, power, temptation to worldly pleasures, temptation to money,
It tempts us through what we see with our eyes.
// through mouth-to-mouth //
// touch with hand // //
// through nose sniffing //
The shield of faith blocks all the fiery arrows of temptation.
Besides these, there are many fiery arrows that Satan shoots at us.
Fire arrows of disappointment, fire arrows of condemnation, fire arrows of complaint, envy, jealousy...
But no satanic fire arrow can pierce the shield of faith and inflict fatal wounds on us.
closing words
The object of our faith is only God.
It is God who blocks all things according to our faith. God is the shield.
Psalm 18:1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.
Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer
my God, my rock of refuge, my shield, my
You are the horn of salvation and my stronghold.
Psalm 18:3 I will call on the LORD, who is to be praised; deliverance from my enemies.
will get it
God becomes our shield and protects the full armor that we are armed with, and He protects us as well.
1 John 5:4 For everyone who is born of God overcomes the world.
This is the victory, our faith.
