Title: Shipowner and Captain
Contents
captain and shipowner. Acts 27:20-26. 08.03.30.
All property in the world is divided into movable and real estate. Real estate is immovable, and all real estate has an owner. Moving is called moving. A car that is a garden also has an owner. Even ships floating in the sea have owners. The person moving the ship may not be the owner. However, there must be an owner.
The owner of this world is God. Because God is the creator of this world. It is God who moves this world. That person is the Holy Spirit.
Genesis 1:1-2 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the deep, and the Spirit of God moved over the waters.”
It is the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, who runs this earth.
A ship has a owner and a captain. The ship owner is the owner of the ship and the captain is the people who operate the ship. All of them have the authority to move the ship.
Captains and owners are very important people who move ships.
Life is like a ship sailing on the sea. The owner of the ship is God. It is the Holy Spirit who moves us. Therefore, we must give up our ownership and entrust our keys to the Holy Spirit. Then our life can go on the right voyage.
1. God is our captain.
So he is the one who moves us according to his will.
Today, I would like to introduce one shipowner. The owner of this ship is the owner of a large merchant ship called Alexandria. This is a huge ship with a capacity of 276 people. The captain of this ship must also be a very experienced and experienced person. This ship was an international flight to Rome.
Paul was going to Rome in this ship as a prisoner. The man in charge of this prisoner is the centurion Julius.
Julius was on the Alexandria with Paul. However, this was the season of typhoons.
So Paul said to the centurion Julius, the captain, and the shipowner, “Everyone! I see that this voyage is very dangerous. If done wrong, not only the ship but all of us are in danger,” he warned.
The captain and the shipowner boasted of their experiences and careers, saying, “What do you mean, I am a man who has spent decades on this sea?” And he decided to go to Rome on his own accord.
The captain and owner of this ship believed in their own strength and career more than Paul's words.
The people of the world are people who put their experiences and their strength before God.
That is why they say it is foolish to believe in God. The centurion, the captain, and the shipowner who were with Paul all ignored Paul. Because he did not believe in God. People without God put their thoughts first. That's why I'm trying to do everything on my own.
After all, you will eventually become corrupt and you will not be able to do good. In the end, you will ignore God and live your life as you please.
Psalm 53:1 “The fool says in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt and do abominable evils; there is no one who does good.”
The captain ignored Paul's words and continued sailing according to his plan. At first the south wind blew gently, and the captain shouted out that he was right. But it wasn't long before the wind started to rise. The wind was getting stronger and the wind started to blow. Now you have met a strong typhoon
On the third day when the typhoon began to blow, they threw everything in the boat into the sea. Seeing the ever-increasing sea, I fell into despair that I could hardly live.
Those who met the typhoon knew that they could not overcome it, even though they mobilized all means and methods with their own strength. So they fell into despair.
At this time, Paul said to them in verse 21, “Take heart, everyone. An angel belonging to me, the angel of my God, stood by me last night and said, “Do not be afraid, Paul, because you must stand before Caesar, and God has given you all those who sail with you. I believe,” he said.
2. People of faith do not despair under any circumstances. Because we know that even the storm is a gift from God. This is faith.
Paul is calling out to those in despair, “Last night an angel of my God stood by me.”
A person of faith believes that the Lord is with us. So, no matter what you fall into, don't be suspicious or anxious.
Therefore, even my life is entrusted to God, who is in charge of me. Wherever Paul went, he trusted God.
- I am always comfortable wherever I am. Peace from the Lord Jesus. always full My heart is always at peace My heart is always at peace There are many waves of evil sins, but my heart is always at peace.-
David had to be chased by King Saul when he was young. He had to fight the fear of death for years.
One day, while hiding in a cave, Saul mobilized 3,000 men to search for him, and then came into the cave alone. David and the soldiers who were hiding in the depths could see in detail.
When Saul entered the cave, he took off his pants and was urinating. At this time, David's servants said, "General David, look, this is the best day that God has given the king." David stood up quietly and cut the hem of Saul's robe with the sword.
After he cut off the hem of his garment, his conscience was so remorseful that he regretted, beating his heart, saying: “The Lord forbids me to stretch out my hand against my anointed lord, for he is the Lord’s anointed.” .
After a while Saul went out of the cave, and David went up the mountain. And he said to Saul in a loud voice, “King Saul, why do you listen to those who say that I am trying to harm you? My father, look at the hem of my robe in my hand, and you will know that I have not killed the king, but cut off only the hem of his robe, that there is no evil or guilt in my hands. Therefore, I want the LORD to be the judge, and to judge between me and the king, to examine my circumstances, and to bring me to justice and deliver me out of your hand.”
Then Saul said, “Is not this your voice, David, my son? Behold, I know that you will surely become king, and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand.”
After cutting the hem of Saul's robe to kill David, David felt very remorseful. Because he knew that Saul's God was his own God.
David did not look at the human Saul, but at the God who was in Saul. So he felt very sorry for the cut off Saul's robe.
Everyone goes to extremes when they fall into despair. However, people of faith do not lose the fact that God is with me even in the midst of despair. Only then can you escape from despair.
Romans 8:35 “Who will boil us in the love of Christ? tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword. But in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
Kyung-Ju Choi, the first Korean professional golfer in the United States, achieved seven wins and became a world-class golfer. There was the prayer of his invisible wife until he became the world's best professional golfer from an unknown golf driving range lesson coach.
At first, Kim Hyun-jung said, “I was very worried about marrying someone I did not trust. So all night long I prayed for my husband to go to church.”
Choi Kyung-joo said, “The prayers of my wife’s tears became the sea, and I think I was able to live my golfing career like this. He is a blessed person. Hearing my wife’s prayers made me feel at ease and I used to feel a sense of hope.”
“While playing golf, I walk while singing hymns or memorizing Bible verses,” said Choi Kyung-ju. When I can't memorize, I look at the Bible verse note my wife wrote and walk. There is no room for God’s love to cool down.” He laughed.
He and his wife start the day with a prayer every morning at Houston Baptist Church in America and Onnuri Church in Korea.
Although he is a recognized world-class athlete, he always humbly kneels before the Lord and longs for God's love. “I want to live as an evangelist in the field. Because loving God is the goal of our lives as a couple,” he proudly said.
No life in the world is smooth. Golf sounds like fun, but in the professional world, you can see just how cold a fight can be. Because sometimes you have to fight loneliness and fight despair.
But in no despair we can boil in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Conclusion: Faith is believing in God. It is believing in walking with God. It is a confession that God is our Lord. It is believing that God is speaking to us today.
A person who has this faith is not discouraged or afraid under any circumstances. This was Paul's faith. We should all become saints who enjoy peace from the storms of this world with the same faith as Paul.
