Title: Showing God's Holiness

body description
Numbers 20 may be the most difficult situation for Moses.
It is because Miriam, whom I love, and Aaron, my brother (verse 26) have lost their lives.
The two people who were by my side, who gave me strength and who had been my strong support, had left.
For Moses, the death of the two could have been difficult, but above all, it made him even more difficult.
One thing was through the Meribah incident in the text, the clear power that it was impossible to enter the land of Canaan,
It was the same voice of God.
Ex) Origin of Lent
Why was Moses unable to enter the land of Canaan because of the Meribah Rock incident?
1. It is because they failed to show the holiness of God (verse 12).
What does God's holiness mean here?
Let's compare the events of Exodus 17 with the situation in the main text.
Verse 8: “Take the staff and assemble the congregation together with your brother Aaron, and in their sight you shall
Command the rock to bring forth water, and you shall bring water from the rock, and the congregation and their
Give the beast a drink.”
There are two things to pay attention to in these verses, the "rock" and the "staff."
These two very blessedly present Christ, but in very different ways.
1 Corinthians 10:4 says, “They drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was
Christ," he said.
The rock here refers to Jesus Christ who was whipped for us.
The next thing to remember about the "staff" is that the staff here is not Moses' old staff, the staff of authority, the staff of power.
The staff of Moses' authority and power is not suitable here.
The staff did its job and struck the rock once.
That was enough.
*Explain Ex 17:5-6 / Exodus 7:20
(Jesus Christ's death on the cross - "The staff that struck the sewer...")
Romans 6:9-10 / 1 Peter 3:18
Here we see a type of Jesus Christ who was judged by the hand of God and beaten for us.
It is the staff that turned the waters into blood that struck "the rock that is Christ" to let streams of life and vitality flow down for us.
However, this should only be done once, never twice.
2. Because he put his own experience first (verses 11-12).
Moses said to the people full of resentment and murmuring, “Listen, you rebels, because we
Shall I bring water out of this rock for your sake?” and struck the rock twice.
But what did God say to do?
Verse 8: “Take the staff and assemble the congregation together with your brother Aaron, and in their sight you shall
Command the rock to bring forth water. You shall bring water from the rock to the congregation and their beasts.
I shall drink.”
Moses recalled the experience of smashing a rock at Rephidim 38 years before God’s word and giving water.
He smashed the rock as if hitting the people who had always complained about it.
I disobeyed God's word.
What is disobedience?
It is unbelief.
Verse 12, “The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “You do not believe in me…”
Dear all!
No matter how excellent or excellent our experiences are, we must not go ahead of the Word of God.
We must recall Calvin's words.
“Go only where the Bible is going and stop where it stops!”
Example) A person with a mental illness who tears paper
Lent period.
In the text, we find God's detailed grace for the work of salvation.
This wonderful love of God was revealed through the cross of Jesus Christ.
We pray in the name of the Lord that we will all remember God who is carrying out the work of redemption even in the wilderness, and that we will all be exposed to God's holiness in our lives by putting it down in front of God's word, no matter what is in front of us, no matter what your experiences and years are. do.
