The Shulammite Expresses Himself from Different Perspectives
This is how the believer expresses himself before Christ and before the world.
1. The bride expresses herself
“I am the daffodil of Sharon and the lily of the valley.” Verse 1
expression comes in two
One is the daffodils of Sharon and the other is the lilies of the valley. Sharon is the name of the valley from Joppa to Caesarea. The daffodils here were famous for their beauty. It is an expression that becomes the object and longed for by all people. Lily, daffodil, and daffodil are unusual stems unlike other poles. This exposes the bride to danger from a different perspective, is subject to the envy of others, and can meet harsh winds and storms. It suggests that you are being loved, but on the other hand, it also suggests that you have become an object of danger.
“My love among women is like a lily among thorns” verse 2
The king immediately responds to Shulammite's praise
It is a form of close communication with each other. The king's expression expresses a more serious and deep love. "A lily among thorns" This is the king's expression for the bride
<1> It is a white flower
It is unknown what type of lily it is. Some scholars call it the magenta lily, which has several symbolic meanings for believers.
a) means beauty
It is the appearance of a believer, and it is the appearance of those who have been loved by God.
b) It is a symbol of purity
The lily is free from blemishes and blemishes. It is an expression of purity and a symbol of purity.
c) It is an expression of humility.
The appearance of a lily with its head bowed shows what humility is.
d) Show the scent
The fragrance of the lilies is blown away in the breeze. This shows what the fragrance of believers is.
<2> Among the thorns
The thorn tree is an expression of “the wicked one” 2 Samuel 23:6. This has several meanings.
a) It looks bad
This is the image of people who have been regenerated before God. Not only the inner man, but also the outer man.
b) harm others
Even the smallest thorn pierces another
c) useless
The thorn is a product of a curse. The thorn is only for the sake of oneself and harms others.
d) bring ruin
In the Near East, thorns were used as firewood (Isaiah 9:18).
From this point on, he will exist only for himself, and will not benefit others.
In the midst of this, the elegantly revealed lily is the figure of the bride.
This makes the bride more revealing and more beautiful.
The lily of the valley shows the position of the bride. It is such a flower that blooms in the midst of adversity. Believers are like “lilies” that bloom among the thorns of the world.
3. There is the excellence of lilies
“The lilies of the valley” verse 1
The other side is the same, but it is the appearance of a lily that blooms better and beautifully among thorns
<1> His character is like that
The thorn stings, but the lily is not like that.
It provides such virtues that give joy to others and give satisfaction to the heart. This is the pure appearance and character of the lily.
<2>It is beneficial to others
“Believers bring joy and joy to others with the grace planted in them”
The lily is pleasing to look at. The graceful figure of believers is an object of joy and joy for all. Believers are the salt and lamp of the world. They are beneficial in every way. This is such an appearance that brings joy to others.
<3>There is a way to go
A “thorn” enters the fire, but the lily continues to reveal its beauty. It is a form that reveals the joy of the kingdom of heaven. Sinners like thorns go into eternal fire, but believers like lilies into paradise The striking difference between the two is that our beyond imagination
4. Shulammite praises the king
“The man who loves me is like an apple tree in the midst of the bushes; I sat in the shade and rejoiced greatly, and the fruit was sweet in my mouth.” Verse 3
The woman she loves compares her beloved man to an “apple tree”
This tree is not among the thorns, but among the bushes. The Hebrews liked the scent of the apple tree very much. The fruit was also recognized as such an unparalleled fruit. Consider the following two aspects.
<1> There is an object of comparison
“Apple Tree” This reminds me of three things
a) Similar in appearance
The apple tree was the object of comparison, not another tree in the bush.
Deep green leaves, white flowers, and the fiery red fruit of which love can be compared. This tree appears in verse 4 in the Song of Songs, in Proverbs 25:11 in Joel 1:12, and again in the Targums. The Hebrews and Arameans Apples were considered more desirable, beautiful, and delicious fruits than other fruits.
This is appropriate as a symbol of Christ because the apple tree was recognized as the best fruit over other fruits.
Christ is superior of all men, and surpassed all priests “as high priest” He is King of kings and treasure of most precious treasures In outward appearance Christ is comparable to a fig tree
b) in the shade
The shade of apple trees is attractive in many ways.
The leaves of that fruit tree make good shade. It is like the shade that Christ creates.
Created such a shade to rest
The shadow makes the weary rest, then restores vitality, and goes on the journey again Christ is also the shadow where sinners rest, and many sinners rest in his shadow, realizing their true nature and returning to God.
They make the sinner a sanctuary and the righteous a refuge
For those who are in Jesus, “there is no condemnation,” Romans 8:1 provides such a shade.
This is such a shade that becomes joy and hope not only for sinners but also for those who are weary and weary. Christ Himself becomes an apple tree for sinners who are the object of God's wrath, and creates a shade for sinners to revive in the shade.
He sees the image of the Son of God who creates a shadow in the scorching heat of the sun.
c) So is the fruit.
Apples are sweet and sour
Those who have tasted it cannot forget the taste of the apple. The same is true of the taste of salvation that Christ offers.
The taste is infinitely sweet, so those who have tasted it cannot forget the taste of the apple, so those who have tasted it are only admiring and grateful for the taste.
Such is the work of Christ on the cross, and so is the word of the gospel that He gave.
This shows how great the grace of the Son of God is.
<2> There is an expression of the situation
“I sat in the shade and rejoiced greatly” verse 3
Sitting is a relaxed and comfortable posture. There is no urgency and it is a form of enjoying in a relaxed state.
People sit in the shadow of Christ
It means that we were tired before, that we are discovering new things in Christ, that we are grateful for the shade he has provided. A state of safety, freedom, and joy in our hearts. May we move forward, sweating under the apple tree It is a traveler's joy to think about it. It is also a joy for sinners in Christ to reflect on themselves and reminisce on the way forward.
A more wonderful expression is "The fruit is sweet in my mouth."
It's not someone else's mouth, it's "my mouth"
This is the feeling the Shulammite felt.
“Sweet” is a feeling of true love. The words of Christ are not sweet to everyone. It is only applicable to those who like and want them. The words that come out of the mouth of Christ are infinitely sweet.
Not only the physical senses are sweet, but the spiritual world is also sweet. This is the result of the words of Christ.
So people who have tasted it once will keep looking for it.
