Title: Silent Words with Hearts
Silent words with heart
Text/ Psalm 19:1-4, Job 38:1-40:4, Matthew 26:57-68
1. Introduction
On the morning of March 27 (Friday), when I opened the window, all the snow that fell yesterday had melted. But when I looked up and saw the mountain in front of me, the mountain was still white. “Oh, there is still snow on the mountain. Today will be the last snow hike this year!” When I thought of this, I suddenly felt impatient, so I immediately packed my backpack and ran to Yangpyeong 玉山 (Oksan 580m). All the snow had melted at the bottom of the mountain, but there was so much snow on the mountain that I fell down to my ankles. I walked alone, meditating and praising the cloudless blue sky - white snow - the clear wind blowing through the pine forest - the occasional chirping of mountain birds, and the cozy - mellow - idyllic snow-covered ridges. I loved walking in the snow, so I walked slowly. The summit of 玉山, the sky is covered with white snow in all directions, and there is no popular figure anywhere, and it was literally 空山不見人 (an empty mountain without people).
After sitting at the shelter on the top of the mountain to drink water, I looked at the mountain ridge path and the tree forest I had walked on. Just then, I suddenly saw. I heard. I felt it. Silence of an empty mountain without people! Breathtakingly strong beauty - the fullness without missing anything - strict warmth! And the silence of the empty mountain (communism) of 靜寂 (stillness) - 淸 (blue spirit) - 如如 (female)!
2. The great power of silence
Silence is the root-foundation-basic-foundation-foundation-foundation-infra-structure of all words in this world that contain the heart. Words that are not rooted in silence become dissatisfied - meaningless - boring - meaningless - complaining - empty noise - clich d words - powerless speech. Indulgence - A horse that has lost its power through indulgence must be purified in silence to restore its true power. However, sometimes what is expressed in words is seen as a contradiction. However, in the silence, the contradictions of words expressed in words are dissolved, and the original truth-truth-intention-truth-purity that the words tried to express clearly transcends contradictions.
Job complained to God about his innocent suffering. Hearing God's word about Job's protest (38:1-40:2), Job said, "I just cover my mouth with my hand" (Job 40:4). That is, to be silent. Standing in front of the council, Jesus said, “Is it true that you said that you will destroy the temple of God and rebuild it on the third day?” He was silent to the high priest who asked (Matthew 26:57-68). When Jesus suffered on the cross in the Garden of Gethsemane, God showed no miracles or signs and was silent (note: Silence of Moltmann's Crucified God, Endo Shusaku). That is the great power of silence.
3. How does the great power of heartfelt silence manifest in your daily life?
first. A warm, heartfelt silence comforts people. While we are living in this world, there are times when we are all exhausted from fiery trials, despairing pains, tribulations like raging fury, heavy burdens and labor. No words can comfort you, and there are times when no words can comfort you.
In such a case, it is more comforting to keep silently by the side of the suffering person with a warm silence filled with sincerity than to try to speak by force.
second. A bright, heartfelt silence puts people at ease. When we encounter an awkward-awkward-inconvenient atmosphere in our daily life, we try to calm that atmosphere by saying something. In such a case, I think it would be good to remember and practice that bright, heartfelt silence is actually more helpful.
There is a Western proverb that says, “When you have nothing to say, say nothing”, and in Chae Geun-Dam, “The natural relationship between people is to be relaxed. We do not recommend food and make it our pleasure to eat what we want, and in the game of Go, we make it a victory not to fight, to enjoy music without revealing the composer or title, and the meeting is held on that day without making a promise for the next day. It is said that it is true that it is precious, and it is easy to avoid the 繁文縟禮 (繁文縟禮) to meet and see off guests.”
third. A wise, heartfelt silence puts an end to unnecessary debates - empty puns - and misunderstandings. In our daily life, we experience open misunderstandings, disputes, and even the severance of relationships that are caused by our habit of speaking carelessly and without thinking. Therefore, we need to carefully check and pay attention to our own speaking habits in our daily life. Not only in the East and the West, but also many proverbs about wise silence from time immemorial should not be shed. That is wisdom.
*When many words are spoken, transgression is hard to escape, but he who controls his lips is wise. (Proverbs 10:19) *Even a fool is considered wise when he is silent, but prudent when he closes his lips (Proverbs 17:28) *Death Life is in the power of the tongue, and he who loves it will eat its fruit (Proverbs 18:21) *Out of the mouth comes evil *Silence is better than unmeaning words *Speech is silver, but silence is gold).
Silence can exist without words, but words cannot exist without silence. For words that are not rooted in silence are empty. But silence is no greater than words. Because silence is imprisoned in darkness unless it is a word. Silence can reveal the value of one's existence through words.
